Lately I haven’t felt very fulfilled. My work has been going great, I’m staying very busy. I truly can’t complain about anything in the family department, my three kids are fabulous to raise and keep me going. However if you have read much on my blog then you know that I am very passionate about non-profit and children’s charities. Matter of fact if I could spend all my time volunteering for non-profits, mentoring teens or working with various children charities without having to worry about working to pay my bills, I would. Unfortunately being a single mom that isn’t an option so lately I’ve become so busy with work that I’ve let my passions slip.
With the Holidays fast approaching I thought it was a perfect time to fix that void. Throughout the year I have been saving up items that I plan to gift to a child from the Angel Tree at Christmas time. It made me start thinking of other ways I could give back. I decided I would take a pledge with myself to take part in at least 12 acts of kindness leading up to Christmas.
What do I get out of it? ~ Fulfillment. Pleasure. Happiness.
Why am I doing it? ~ Why not! Giving and helping others makes me feel good and when I don’t feel good then apparently I’m not giving enough!
What’s the point of 12 Weeks of Giving? ~ I hope that pushing myself to accomplish at least one small act a week I will help myself achieve that nice balance between having the desire to volunteer full time and working so much I forget to pursue my passions in non-profit. A test of balance on limited funds and limited time yet full of passion.

My amazing friend, Linda Sellers created that awesome button for me!
For the first week in kicking off 12 Weeks of Giving I wanted to introduce to you another blogger I found recently. I love her amazing life story and she is doing some fabulous things with her blog. Every two weeks she announces a guest blogger to share a touching story and a charity to raise funds for. She also hosts some fun giveaways for all to enter. I love seeing bloggers use their Blog4Good! By the way, did I mention that she also has two children with special needs? Just amazing.
The current guest blogger on Jeannett’s site is Mique Provost and she shares her story about her son while fundraising for Surfers Healing. Truly a touching story and I love what this cause represents! I encourage you to go over and visit Life Rearranged and browse around her site. I also encourage you to donate, even $1 helps. Keep your eye on her site for future charities being featured and to see all the wonderful things Jeannett’s doing to give back.
Although donating to Surfers Healing didn’t take much effort, it felt good!
Thank you for sharing this blog with me! I really needed to see her story. We aren’t alone in this, that is important to remember.
I love what you are planning on the 12 days of giving back. I can’t wait to see more.
oh you are so sweet! thank you! but really, giving is amazing. and i think that so many women sit at home feeling overwhelmed and wanting to give back but not knowing how or if they can. i always say “their hearts are bigger than their purses”…so that was a huge part of my reasoning…to make it easy, heartfelt, and that we can pool our little bits to make one big bit! 🙂
thanks for the shout out! i truly appreciate it!
This is a great, great idea! But you already know I am excited for you and your children! Not only giving back and being kind, but instilling the act of kindness in your children by having them involved, now that is even more amazing! I am proud to call you my best friend! U go girl! And a new blogger?? I have to go read!
Wonderful idea, and what a fantastic blog idea, truly!
That’s a fabulous idea. It’s so easy to fall prey to the over-commericalized attitude of the holiday season and this a really good way to counter-act this mentality in our adult selves but also curb the “I want” attitude from the kids. You’ve given me something to think about…thanks.
