Smurfing Out with the Xbox 360
I love how the Smurfs have come back from my childhood. The fun little blue characters give my kids and I something we can all relate to. When I see them enjoying the movies and games it reminds me of when I was a kid.
When the Xbox 36o game came out for The Smurfs 2 the kids and I headed straight down to RedBox and rented it. Within only a day we loved playing it and passed several levels. When I was asked if I wanted to review the full copy of the Xbox 360 game I jumped on the chance so we could have more time to really try out the various levels and play as all the characters.
Each Smurf has their own powers and special abilities within the game. You can select a different Smurf to play as on each level if you’d like. Therefore depending on the challenge you are trying to pass that may help with your decision on which Smurf you select. As you progress in the game you unlock new Smurfs to play as. We haven’t quite made it to Smurfette yet but that is our next goal.
The Smurfs 2 video game is a combination of action-adventure and platform gaming across over 30 levels in 6 environments. The player embodies one of the nine Smurfs featured in the movie including Jokey Smurf, Hefty or Brainy Smurf in an adventure that will transport them first to the main locations visible in the film such as Paris and the Enchanted Forest. The players will then continue their journey through the discovery of environments exclusive to the video game such as the Spooky Woods, Arctic Tundra and the Lava Jungle. The full adventure is playable cooperatively with up to 4 players (5 players on Wii U operating as Clockwork Smurf).
Players will meet and collect another 20 different Smurfs friends through the game and use them to populate the Smurfs Village and also to defeat foes, facing against 12 different types of enemies and 6 bosses during the campaign including the notorious Azrael and Gargamel, and newcomers such as the Naughties.

Playing with two or more players makes the game even more fun but also has its challenges. The leading player can’t move along in the game too quickly because if they leave behind the other player(s) they will get pushed off the screen and lose a life. What I do like about this game is in multiplayer mode you are still working together as a team instead of against one another. This makes the game more capable for me to play with my kids, instead of feeling like I’m in competition against them – we can help each other. The only one we are competing against is Gargamel.
Each level is a new scene with different challenges. I love all the colorful graphics and fun obstacles to pass. Some levels are extremely easy for all ages and then of course there were a few times we struggled and it took us several tries to move ahead.
All in all, we find The Smurfs 2 Xbox 360 game entertaining for our family. We look forward to continuing through the game until we reach the finale.
