Seasonal Tips For Staying Happy, Healthy And Organized

This is always one of the most stressful times of year. The weather is worse, the days are shorter, and the costs start stacking up. We all need help staying on track when it comes to our projects, our families and ourselves.

Get Proactive

Start making a schedule for each day of the week. Look for pockets of time that you can use for personal projects or relaxation. Get ahead of commitments such as doctor’s appointments and work meetings by keeping a comprehensive diary. Make a budget plan for the weeks leading up to the holiday season. Plan for seasonal costs, such as gift giving and vacations, as early as you can.

Take Care Of Yourself

Keep a regular exercise routine. Make sure that you are getting outside during daylight even if it is just on your lunchbreak. Remember that sunshine has important health benefits. Take vitamin D and other mineral supplements to give your body the support it needs. Invest in a SAD lamp if you suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder. Avoid too much sugar or caffeine because it can affect your mood, energy levels, and sleep patterns. Prioritize getting enough sleep and remember that adults need between seven to nine hours a night.

Know When You Need The Personal Touch

Look for easy tasks that you can complete virtually. Push for in person appointments if you want to see someone face to face. Talk to the other party about what COVID safety measures they are taking if you are worried. Consider that virtual/online options for some services may be limited. Talk to a professional designer about the difference in online interior design services versus a personal consultation. Wait for an in-person interior design consultation if you are committing to a large project.

Share The Burden

Talk to your partner about dividing responsibilities as we head into winter. Be honest about what you are finding difficult and where you need more support. Check in with each other regularly. Prioritize communication even when things are stressful. Stay connected with your friends and family. Talk to the people you trust about how you are doing. Remember that mental health issues have affected many of us and that there is someone there to listen. Encourage your children to share what they are struggling with.

Take A Big Step Back

Book a vacation in this winter. Find a way to disconnect from work completely. Stop checking your work emails and work messages after you have signed off. Take a break from your screens when you can.
