I am sure by now you have seen the trend of extreme milkshakes. They take desserts to a whole new level. My kids and I have seen photos and videos of them being served at some well known restaurants in many major cities and have always wanted to create one at home. My adult daughter and I decided to gather some of our favorite ingredients and put together this Salted Caramel Pretzel Extreme Shake.
When making an extreme shake there is no real science behind it. Visualize a mound of all your favorite sweets and treats.
Salted Caramel Pretzel Extreme Shake Ingredients
- Blue Bunny® Toffee Brownie Twist™ ice cream
- Blue Bunny® Rockin’ Rocky Road™ ice cream
- Blue Bunny® Salted Caramel Pretzel Bunny Snacks™
- white powdered donuts
- pretzels – crushed
- caramel
- milk
I was picked toppings based on the flavor of shake I was making. Since the ice cream I was using had toffee and caramel I knew I wanted to rim my glass in it.
After dipping the rim of my glass in caramel I placed the glass upside down on a plate in the refrigerator. This allowed the caramel to set in place and prevent it from running down the glass. The cold refrigerator helped thicken the caramel slightly.
To give our shake some extreme flavor we used both ice creams. The highlight of the show was the Blue Bunny® Salted Caramel Pretzel Bunny Snacks™ so we had to include some extra pretzel pieces to our shake. After crushing the pretzels we rolled the caramel glass rim in the pieces.
The first layer of the shake we blended milk with Blue Bunny® Toffee Brownie Twist™ ice cream and poured into our chilled glass.
Next we added our a smaller amount of the Blue Bunny® Rockin’ Rocky Road™ ice cream blended with milk. You can see that the two flavors slightly mixed together. When making the shake we did not blend for too long so it would have chunks of ice cream in it. If you over mix just spoon in a few scoops of ice cream.
An extreme shake is not complete without some whipped cream.
Now comes the best part – topping! This is where you can get creative and take your shake to the extreme dessert level.
This year Blue Bunny® introduced a totally new treat, Bunny Snacks™. Bunny Snacks™, are the perfect bite-size treat available in four must-have flavors: Salted Caramel Pretzel, Chocolate Vanilla Twist, Chocolate Chip Cookie and Cookies ‘N Cream. With our love for caramel there was no question which Bunny Snacks™ we were trying first.
When shopping at Walmart for our extreme shake ingredients I could go a little wild in the ice cream section. Blue Bunny® has been bringing delicious ice cream made with fun, fresh ingredients to families for over 80 years and I’m loving all their new flavors for 2017.
The new individually wrapped Blue Bunny® treats give classic flavors a fun, unique twist and are perfect treats for the entire family! Although they are the perfect size to grab and eat outside this summer, they also made the best topping for our extreme shake.
To go beyond ice cream, caramel and pretzels – we garnished with some powdered donuts looped on a straw. By using a decorative straw to hold the donuts in place they remain dry until you eat them.
Now this is one yummy dessert! Not one of us could devour this all by ourselves, we had to share.
