My family loves Asian food so finding the perfect meal solution for dinner at home is priceless. The star of the show were these delicious Van’s Kitchen egg rolls. This past weekend I had my parents, aunt, and best friend over to visit. We prepared the egg rolls and everyone loved them. They couldn’t get enough. My dad and aunt even cut the last egg roll in half to split! To accompany the egg rolls I decided to make a dipping sauce. While I was at it I added the sauce to some chicken skewers to round out the meal. The Orange Honey Sweet & Sour Grilled Chicken was a hit.
Orange Honey Sweet & Sour Grilled Chicken Recipe
Orange Honey Sweet & Sour Grilled Chicken Sauce Ingredients
- 1/4 cup of water
- 1/2 cup of honey
- 1 cup of fresh squeezed orange juice
- 1 Tablespoon of soy sauce
- 3 Tablespoons of white vinegar
- 3 Tablespoons of cornstarch
I recommend squeezing your own orange juice. Store brands may not taste the same in this sauce. It took four oranges to get a full cup of juice for our recipe.
Once you have all of your ingredients, mix them into a sauce pot on the stovetop. I added my liquid ingredients first, stirred and then added the honey. I let that heat up before adding the cornstarch.
Cook over medium heat, stirring often. The sauce will naturally thicken but you want to prevent it from clumping. Once the sweet & sour sauce is at the consistency that you prefer, remove from the heat.
For the grilled chicken skewers I used some garlic powder seasoning sprinkled on top. Once the chicken was a little more than half-way cooked I brushed on the homemade orange honey sweet & sour sauce. After you add the sauce to your chicken let it heat up and soak into your chicken on the grill.
While the sauce was cooking onto the chicken I started the prep for cooking the Van’s Kitchen Chicken Egg Rolls.
You can find Van’s Kitchen egg rolls in three varieties; chicken, pork and shrimp. I found them in the deli area at my local Walmart.
The package says you can cook the egg rolls in the microwave or oven. I tried it both ways. Although the microwave is faster when preparing only one egg roll for a quick lunch option, I recommend cooking in the oven for a crispier taste.
It took less than ten minutes for the egg rolls to be perfect!
Van’s Kitchen is family owned and operated for over 30 years. Truly authentic food from a company that is run by a CEO who also happens to be a working mom of two teenage boys.
When asked to share my experience with the Van’s Kitchen egg rolls the CEO took time out of her busy schedule to send me a letter. I thought that personal touch was really nice and I enjoyed reading the story behind the company.
Van’s Kitchen egg rolls are full of freshly chopped carrots, onions, celery and cabbage and 100% white meat chicken. Rolled in a thin crispy wrapper with a custom blend of Asian seasoning, Van’s Kitchen egg rolls have been a family favorite for over 30 years.
Finding Asian food that has no added MSG is amazing. That puts Van’s Kitchen at the top of my list! The chicken egg rolls are low in fat and calories, making them a healthy choice.
