Old Navy Giveaway – School Attendance Drive

Did you know that the Dallas Independent School District was reported to have one of the highest dropout rates of any urban school district in the US? One of the reasons this rate is so high is because students are missing too much school.

Old Navy kicked off an initiative to boost attendance by creating an attendance pledge. On Saturday, August 28th at the Town East Mall in Mesquite, TX Old Navy location the doors opened early for students to get free back-to-school clothes in exchange for signing the attendance pledge. Old Navy awarded shopping sprees to 200 lucky students picked by a random lottery draw! The event included brief remarks to the students from the ‘drop out guru’, Rene Martinez, on the importance of education and attendance.

In addition to the past shopping spree, Old Navy will open this shopping experience up to all students at the five participating local Dallas schools to be rewarded with gift cards if they receive perfect attendance at the end of the school year.

Participating Dallas Independent School District Schools:

  • Frazier
  • Bowie
  • Burleson
  • Tasby
  • Zumwalt Elementary

  3. Since we homeschool G wouldn’t have much choice about whether or not to attend. But, I don’t think he’s the one we have to worry about. He’s excited about school. It’s me who needs the extra push now and then.

  4. My oldest son is determined to have no missed days of school this year- it was his idea (they have a party at the end of the year that he would be invited to.) I’m so proud of his choice and we are fully supporting it.

Each year I try to keep the kids healthy, too, with good hand-washing habits, bundling up, etc. Makes it a whole lot easier to be in school when you are not contending with winter colds!

Thanks for the chance to win!

  5. I don’t have much to worry about this year. My kids are in first and second grade and love school! And we usually get communication from the teacher home every day so I would know if they weren’t there!
