For this week’s ‘Because I Said So’ Buck received an anonymous question that we are going to address. “How do you decide on a baby name?” I’ll admit this question is a little fun but some what tough. There are many different ways parents could go about this.
I think it truly depends on the family when naming a baby. Some families like to name a child after other family members or even carry on their own name for several generations. My father is a Jr. and so is my nephew following with his father’s name. I personally wouldn’t name my child after myself or their father because I believe each person is unique and I like my children to have their own identity. To me your name is a big part of who you are so why would you want to have the exact name of someone else? Again, just my personal views.
Many members of my family have very unique names. To name a few we have: Dwan, Tapanga, Coel, and Deianeira. We also enjoy spelling names in our own unique way such as: Kylii, Raylen and Destinie. A few of our family members’ names, including mine, came from movies. Most probably know that Tapanga came from the sitcom Boy Meets World, I just loved that name. My name came from the older version of King Kong, the female he fell in love with was named Dwan in the movie. Gabrielle was decided on after watching a show and loving the name as well as Noah. Then of course there is Noah’s middle name Blake which I have always loved that name. Don’t ask me why but ever since I was a teenager I would always say ‘one day I am going to have a son and name him Blake’ and that’s what I did over 3 years ago. I can’t even remember where I first heard that name and although I’m sure I ran across one or two Blake’s in my past, I don’t remember any of them.
When deciding on a name the parents could make a list of ones they enjoy then eliminate some together, the father and mother could each decide on one and put those names together to create the first and middle, the parents could search online or through baby books to help get ideas or heck even create a fun poll with their favorites and let friends and family help vote on the best fit. Ultimately no matter how you decide on the name for your baby, you will just know when it is right. You will feel it, the name will just fit.
Thank you anonymous for your question and I hope this post helped give you some ideas. Good luck with your new family addition and naming the baby!
I’m headed over to see what Buck had to say this week, you coming?
