Thanks to Kano for sending us the Pixel Kit to review. All opinions are 100% my own.
Noah has been fascinated with tech and robotics since he was a toddler. He counted down the days until he was old enough to go to robotics summer camp so he would learn some coding and how to build computer parts for robots. This week he spent hours playing with the new Pixel Kit by Kano.
Kano Pixel Kit
You start by building the kit and reading over the starter guide. Noah is 12-years-old and did not need any of my help from start to finish. He was proud of what he accomplished and was eager to show me each step in the learning process.
It comes with the cord you need to connect it to your computer and some fun stickers to use as ideas to design in your Pixel Kit.
The Kano app is available for PC and Mac. It was a quick download for him to use it. Once it was ready to go he took over. To be honest, I haven’t played in the program myself yet. I simply watched him have fun with it.
His favorite mode was the Paint with Light. He was able to let his creativity shine on the Pixel Kit. He wrote messages in various colors on the computer program and then let them display on his Pixel Kit. He was able to set the designs to show as slow or quick as he wanted.
The Pixel Kit comes with 30 creative challenges and built-in games, light show, and sound equalizer. Noah spent hours and hasn’t done even half of what it offers. I love that he is using tech to learn and develop skills that will be valuable. Often times kids get caught up in playing video games or using technology to watch silly YouTube videos. I love that he was so fascinated with the Pixel Kit.
With each new design he created, he was so excited to share with everyone in the home. The process made him pay close attention to variables. There were times when he would make a mistake and the outcome wasn’t what he hoped for. He had to stop, read, and try again.
I feel like the Pixel Kit teaches problem-solving, analytical thinking, creative process, beginner coding and builds skills that make kids confident.
If you are looking for a tech gift that adds value to your child’s screen time, I recommend the Kano Pixel Kit. If you want to start the new year off with some fun learning activities, the Pixel Kit is for you.
