I love buying organic oats from our local Sprouts. We use oats in cookies and our power snack bites. While picking up oats I decided to grab some dried apple rings and make a batch of Cinnamon Apple and Walnut Oatmeal mix. Oatmeal is a quick breakfast option for me during the busy work week. By making my own oatmeal mix, I know what ingredients are in it.
Ingredients
- 2 1/4 cup of quick-cooking oats
- 6 tablespoons of non-dairy creamer
- 1/2 cup firmly-packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 7 oz dried apples
I always mix my finer ingredients together first. By combining the creamer, sugar, salt and cinnamon I can guarantee that all the walnuts and apple pieces will be thoroughly coated.
Brown sugar has a tendency to stick together so I use my wooden spoon to smash and stir.
Once the sugar mixture is well blended I add the oats and walnuts.
I purchased dried apple rings and diced them into small pieces. You can do this by hand or add the dried apples to a food processor. I did not want my apple pieces too small, a perfect bite size.
Once you stir your oatmeal mixture together it is ready to pour into a mason jar for storage. Keep the lid on air-tight and your oatmeal will last a long time. This oatmeal blend fits perfectly into a quart size mason jar. You can make roughly 15 servings of oatmeal from the entire jar.

Now you can quickly prepare your breakfast each morning. Simple pour 1/2 cup of oatmeal into a bowl with 2/3 cup of boiling water and stir. This oatmeal tastes just as delicious as it smells.
