So you’ve seen Sleepless in Seattle, Gangs of New York, Chicago, Fargo, and LA Confidential… but how much do you really know America?
While Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas may be some people’s experience of the Nevada strip, you should never base your opinion on a place purely by how it’s portrayed in TV and film — you’ve got to get out there and live it for yourself!
The United States has so many ultra-famous locations to visit, and you could prioritize your travel hotlist based on popularity and “must see” status, or you could go off-piste and take in a lesser known American Beauty.
Okay, enough of the puns. Let’s go through your US travel checklist:
The A-List cities
There is so much more to The United States than its city locations. However, these are a fantastic place to start your Stateside adventure; if for no better reason than flight connections! Each of the US states has access to at least one airport, but you’ll likely find the bigger cities offer cheaper, more reliable and timely flight paths.
Los Angeles, New York City, and Miami are up there with some of the most famous city trips in the US, but there’s much to be enjoyed in other cities across the States. Austin, Texas is the ideal location for arty, musical types who are keen to explore a somewhat alternative scene. For foodies, Sacramento is a must-visit location; home to America’s farm-to-fork movement, the plates offered in this California city are second to none.
A slice of US life, in a beach town
California may be where it’s at for beach living, but did you know that the longest coastline on US land is actually way up in Alaska? So, put your pre-existing ideas of America beach towns to one side and look for exciting alternatives for your trip.
VacationRenter can help you find accommodation all across the US; however, Gulf Shore is highly recommended. Enjoy the sun, sea and atmosphere. Plus, if you wish to experience a small road trip, jump in your car and drive to New Orleans – roughly three hours away.
Some locations may require you to grab a surfboard, others just a bucket of local seafood. Enjoy that sea air and stare out into the wide oceans.
The wild, wild wilderness
One of America’s distinct draws is its access to unparalleled beauty and wilderness, only a reasonably short drive from most metropolitan locations.
If you enjoy breathing fresh, clean air and donning hiking boots for a jaunt into the unknown, then national parks like Yellowstone, Yosemite, Zion and Bryce Canyon should all be on your travel list. With a huge range of activities, to do in truly breathtaking surroundings, you won’t get bored quickly in this wilderness setting.
However, if your idea of getting out of the city is more in line with luxury relaxation, you’ll also find no shortage of spas and treatment centers tucked away in the American wilderness. With some of the world’s most awe-inspiring stargazing to be done in America’s remote locations, you could do far worse than booking your honeymoon or romantic holiday in the United States.
