Winter Fun in Ruidoso, New Mexico

Last Friday after Gabby got out of the hospital from her 24 hour video EEG we decided to go home and pack for a spontaneous road-trip to Ruidoso, New Mexico. The kids had been begging to see some snow since they kept hearing all the talk about other states and even other cities within Texas receiving so much. It’s very unusual for the Dallas/Fort Worth area to get much snow during the winter, let alone enough for the kids to actually play in. Since this past Monday was a school holiday in honor of Martin Luther King Day it was the perfect opportunity to getaway.

It was nice getting out of town and breaking away from the reality of all the doctor appointments. We stayed at a really nice cabin right off town. The kids got to see deer up so close to the cabin that one accidentally got pegged by a piece of ice while Noah was throwing it off the patio. Noah and Gabby had lots of fun playing outside on the balcony and then relaxing indoors near the fire place while dinner was cooking. We literally couldn’t have asked for a nicer cabin and we plan to go back again in the future. We also got to see live turkey walking down the street. It was priceless.

The second day we headed to Winter Park for lots of fun in the snow. We slid down very high and fast slopes on tubes. Noah rode down with me one time and didn’t like it at all. He was scared to say the least. We actually didn’t predict it to go as fast as it did. However both of the girls loved it. Gabby couldn’t get enough. There was a fun kid area that Noah loved. I wasn’t able to capture any photos or videos of us on the main slopes but I did capture some great photos and short video clips in the kid area. Noah loved sliding down the kid slopes and I had a blast pulling him around in the tube. We also had a snow ball fight and built a small snowman.

It was our first time to visit New Mexico so I can mark another state off my list which puts me one step closer to accomplishing that Life List goal. I also have go skiing on my Life List but we weren’t able to squeeze time in for that plus I didn’t have a sitter for Noah and Gabby. One day T and I hope to make it back where we can learn to ski together. The weekend was fabulous, relaxing, fun and all around enjoyable for each of us. We came home with many winter memories!
