Top Waterproof Tech Accessories

Our family spends a lot of time around water.  From beach vacations and cruises to water parks and local pools, each of us enjoy swimming and having fun in the sun.  Our tech gadgets play a big role in our lives and my smartphone is one of the ways I preserve our vacation memories.  Below are my top waterproof tech accessories that I don’t leave home without.

I have tested several waterproof smartphone cases and usually the hard cases last one summer before starting to leak.  I haven’t found one that I love the quality of my images when using it and often times the person on the other end of a phone call cannot hear me very well.  This year I gave up trying to find the perfect waterproof case and venture out into something a little more practical.

JOTO Waterproof Phone Bag

For our cruise in March I wanted to find a waterproof phone bag that I could not only protect my mobile phone but also hold my cruise room key card and cash.  We scheduled several excursion that would not allow me to have a purse or backpack with me at all times.  By using a lanyard phone bag I was able to easily carry around my essentials without the fear of losing them.  We went zip-lining through the rainforest in Belize and I wanted to keep my cash and phone on me instead of in a locker.  Plus, it was an easy way to take videos and photos without the fear of water damage.

My phone touchscreen was still active while it was inside the bag.  I could check emails, open my camera and monitor the time while the waterproof seal was locked in place.

I have used this little lanyard waterproof phone bag a dozen times and love it.  I would never recommend going on a cruise without one.  I wore this thing the whole time, even around the boat.  I purchased the teal JOTO waterproof phone bag for me and the white one for my daughter.  There are several colors so you and your family members can easily tell them apart.  As you can see in the photo above, without this waterproof bag I would not have captured this moment so quickly on video.

This image was taken using my smartphone while it was inside the waterproof bag.  You can tell the quality is not as great as the first image that was shot using a Canon DSLR.  But it is not bad.  It is better than not preserving your vacation through photos for fear of water damage.

I prefer to take my phone out of the case when taking photos.  However, the bag is perfect for carrying everything around.  When we went tubing through the caves in Belize it was perfect to hang around my neck knowing it was secure and protected.  Now I’ve been using it this summer at the local water park with my kids.  Instead of leaving my belongings unattended at our table with towels, I can rest knowing it is secure around my neck.

myCharge All Terrain Charger

The myCharge military-grade, drop, dust, water and temperature-proof battery charger was sent to me as a review item.  I love this little power bank.  My favorite feature is not that it is waterproof, since I don’t charge my phone under water, but that it is dust proof. I use my phone at the beach a lot for photos and videos so having this charger that sand will not damage is perfect.  I can toss it on my beach towel without fear of sand shorting it out.

It seems like every time we go somewhere at least one member in our family has a device going dead.  Keeping a backup battery charger on hand really helps out.  This myCharge All Terrain is perfect for that, no matter where you are traveling.  I am hoping for an Alaska cruise one day soon and this little gadget will even hold up in the freezing cold temperatures.  It has a built-in USB port which chargers just about every mobile device I can think of.  From smartphones to tablets, it has you covered.

military grade chargerIt is also known to charge a smartphone 30% faster than the supplied charging cord from the original manufacture.  So if you are in a pinch and need a quick charge this is your go-to option.  I use my GPS on my smartphone during our family bike rides because I love to track our progress.  As I’m sure you know, a GPS really drains a phone battery quick.  I toss this myCharge in my bike basket and can charge while the GPS is running.  It will also work on a portable GPS for hardcore hikers.

The flip lid seals the inside port shut when you are not charging.  You can drop the myCharge All Terrain up to three meters and the ruggedized exterior will protect it.

What waterproof accessory is your go-to?

Full Disclosure: I received a myCharge complementary in exchange for a review. All opinions in this post are 100% mine.

  1. Woah! Thank you for the info on the JOTO. There are some great waterfalls near us and I love taking pictures when I go there, but I get so nervous about my phone (or camera)! This looks like a great solution. I have an Android, so I’ll have to measure. Thank you for the tip!

  2. Having that Joto would be great! I’m thinking even at amusement parks. I really don’t like carrying a purse at places like that, just a few essentials. I’m going to have to check this out. Thanks for sharing at DI & DI 🙂 We enjoy seeing your creativity each week!
