47 Meters Down (2017)
While still new to the creature feature scene, 47 Meters Down is making the grade as a shark movie. While many moviegoers felt that the movie was a little far-fetched, many thought it was another classic in the making. The story centers on two sisters who are vacationing in Mexico. They go down deep into the ocean in a shark cage to see the great whites. The cage breaks and the sisters find themselves 47 meters down in the ocean, with sharks swimming nearby, and no help in sight.
Moving away from the classic take on sharks eating bikini-clad girls on the beach and moving the sharks themselves into an Australian shopping mall seemed like a dumb idea when it was made. However, the fact that a freak tsunami is what brought the sharks into the waterlogged mall saved this film from being totally out there. The actors did a great job of showing fear and strength as they battle to get out of the mall without being shark bait. This is a must-see horror flick for any shark lover.
Shark Night 3D (2011)
While not really a fan of 3D, this shark movie was one to remember. It has the classic teens being eaten by sharks, but with a twist. Not only is the shark that is attacking the helpless teens in a lake, there are too many sharks in that lake to count. The best thing about Shark Night 3D is the plot twist at the end when revealing the reason a tranquil lake is teeming with man-eating sharks, to begin with. This is one to add to your shark fest movie night for sure.
The Shallows (2016)
No one would think that a girl trapped on a buoy in the middle of a secluded cove would be interesting at all. After all, how can a ton of people get eaten with only one lone girl trapped by a shark? However, Blake Lively pulled it off and pulled it off well. This movie is full of suspense, drama, and even makes you sad at times. Definitely, one to watch.
No list of the top shark movies is complete without the 1975 classic, JAWS. With creepy, infamous music to announce the shark’s arrival, and suspense galore, this shark movie is a classic and will be watched during every shark fest for many, many years to come.
These are just a few of the best shark movies out there for movie lovers to enjoy. Each of these has its own shark or set of sharks, in a different environment. Shark movies have proved over the years that you don’t have to be at the beach to be shark food. Enjoy your shark movie fest and don’t forget the popcorn!
