Tips for Hosting a Holiday Party for a Large Group

I love hosting gatherings at my home. We have a large family and several friends we invite over for each holiday. With multiple siblings, about a dozen nieces and nephews, and five children of our own – it is no surprise to have 24 or more guests at one time. Hosting a lot of people can get chaotic, but we cherish the time we spend laughing with our family. Below I share tips for hosting a holiday party for a large group.
Tips for Hosting a Holiday Party for a Large Group
Provide a Variety of Appetizers
Whether you are hosting a sit-down meal or only plan to serve hot hors-d’oeuvres, having a variety of appetizers set out and ready for when your guests arrive is key. I love a simple fruit and cheese platter. I also try to add a salty snack to the mix. By setting out some appetizers this gives your guests something to snack on to prevent them from being overly hungry before dinner is served.
While guests mingle and chat, they always love to have something small to eat with their hands. Provide food picks to make snacking without sitting down easy.
Set Up a Drink Station
When hosting a large group, you need to make sure there is something for everyone to enjoy drinking. I like to offer soda, caffeine-free soda, water, and punch. When a party is planned to last several hours, your guests may want to switch up their drink of choice. That is one reason I love these Coca-Cola® Mini Cans. They are the perfect size for individual consumption without waste.
Sprite® provides a carbonated beverage without the caffeine. It’s great for anyone at your party who wants a soda without caffeine. My go-to drink is Dasani® bottled water. Gold Peak® Sweet Tea and Diet Coke® are also good options to have on hand.
On my drink station, I offer straws, disposable cups with a marker to write the guest’s name, ice, and drinking glasses. Many party guests are comfortable drinking from plastic disposable cups, but I prefer glass. I also offer room temperature Dasani® bottled water, as well as cold bottles.
Making Party Shopping Easier
My best tip for hosting a holiday party for a large group is to buy in bulk at Sam’s Club. Not only do I enjoy shopping at Sam’s Club but I love using their Club Pickup option. It allows me to save time by ordering online and picking up my shopping cart ready to go at Member Services.
When I entered my Sam’s Club I could see all the orders nicely lined up on the side ready for the customers that purchased online. It is one great way to reduce stress when planning a party. I can easily get distracted when shopping in Sam’s Club but when ordering online I can stick to my list quickly.
There is no fee for Club Pickup online ordering. It is also helpful when buying Coca-Cola® and Sprite®, since the boxes of cans can be heavy. No sense bending over to load your own buggy when Sam’s Club is more than willing to help you out.
