What do you want from your next family vacation? If the answer is sun, good value and plenty of opportunities for family bonding, then Tenerife in the Canary Islands might just be the perfect place. To help you plan your trip, here are seven fantastic things to do with the whole family.
Hit the beach
You have several choices on Tenerife for family-friendly beaches, but one of the best has to be Playa Jardín in Puerto de la Cruz. The sea is perfect for kids of all ages to take a dip in and nothing beats a game of family beach volleyball to burn off some energy and have a great time together.
Go whale and dolphin spotting
If your kids are wildlife enthusiasts, then you’ve come to the right place, as Tenerife is famous for its dolphins and pilot whales. Head to the south west coast of the island to join one of the many boat trips that take tourists and locals whale watching.
Ride in a helicopter
While this experience is slightly more expensive, if you can afford to splurge it will make for one of those special moments you’ll never forget. Helidream Helicopters, based at Costa Adeje offers a range of trips and even do pick-ups from your accommodation. Undoubtedly the very best way to see the island. It is definitely on my life list!
Take a submarine safari
There is an amazing array of marine life beneath the surface of the sea in Tenerife, so what better way to explore it than in a yellow submarine. And yes, the whole family will no doubt be singing the Beatles’ song, ‘Yellow Submarine‘, for the rest of the vacation!
Hold on tight at the Forestal Park
This one is slightly off the beaten track, but you can’t beat Forestal Park near El Rosario for some adrenalin-fuelled fun, especially if your family includes one or more dare devils. Scale rope ladders, cross bridges and climb giant spider webs high in the pine trees – perfect for learning to work together as a team.
Explore inland Tenerife by horseback
Even if you’ve never been on a horse before, a horse ride into the beautiful Canarian countryside is great for fun all the family. Inexperienced parents will never fail to make the kids giggle, while you might even find you have some young budding jockeys in your brood!
Let your hair down
There’s plenty to do in Tenerife for families in the evening – most restaurants are extremely child friendly and cater for a wide range of tastes. So when the sun goes down, why not opt for an evening of cabaret entertainment with your dinner thrown in?
Many of us feel that with busy working lives there is never enough time to simply be together as a family and enjoy each other’s company. Get away from it all with a summer vacation to somewhere like Tenerife and rediscover how much fun you can have as a family.
