Summer Fun – Pool Time with Kids

The last week we have spent a lot of time swimming.  The kids have become little fish!  Spending time at the pool is a great way to get quality time together as a family that’s fun and free.  Noah’s father lives in an apartment complex so we have been going over there to use his pool.  This Texas weather has been brutally hot and with me and the girls being so pale we have been taking full advantage of swimming in the evening to avoid sunburn.  Plus since school is out it hasn’t hurt to stay up a little late.

Summer, Swimming, Kids, Pool

Noah has gotten extremely comfortable with the water this year.  I’m so excited that he is now jumping in the pool and going under.  He usually wears his life jacket but has been letting me and his dad work with him on swimming some.  He has his limits but we at least work with him some each time we go swimming.  He’s doing great.

Gabby loves going under water and I wish she could swim.  I feel so helpless trying to teach her.  Her Cerebral Palsy prevents her from using her right hand very much and she always uses her left hand to hold her nose when going under.  How do I teach a child to swim one handed, let alone with no hands? I know it’s time to search out some special needs swim lessons or some sort of training.  Funds are tight right now so I have just been letting her play and practice.  She’s doing great and I’m actually surprised at how far she can make it under water.

Here’s a fun video that I took while we were at the pool this week.  Enjoy!

What fun things are you doing this summer?  Do your kids know how to swim?

  1. We are going to Disneyland in August, can’t wait!! My kids don’t know how to swim, yet, but they sure do love the water!! I think it is great that your kids are so comfortable in the water. And for now, it is great that you are just letting Gabby play around in the water. 🙂

  2. Looks like fun and you’re encouraging them to learn to swim! So important for kids to learn to swim – my DD28 just bought a house with a pool and hoping they’ll start teaching the grandkids 3 and 5 to swim! Glad my youngest DD24 was a lifeguard!

  3. There is nothing like swimming in the summer- Pure pleasure! What a great video, wow!!!
we are going to the beach a lot but not really swimming, the kids love it 🙂
