Spending Quality Time with Your Family

Quality Time If you’re anything like me, your family is the most important thing to you. You would do anything to ensure that your family stays safe and well cared for. Although we go out of our way to make sure our families have what they need, it can be easy to forget what really matters… spending quality time with family. We get so busy cooking meals, cleaning up messes, and driving kids to extra-curricular events that we forget to slow down and just hang out. If this sounds like you, these tips will help you make quality time with your family a priority.

Use Your Calendar

Many times, we over commit ourselves, which can lead to spending less and less quality time with our families. Use your calendar to help keep track of all of your commitments and be sure to pencil down any scheduled family time. This will help you keep your days organized so that there are no distractions or worries when you sit down for quality family time.

Put Your Phone Down

How many of us have cell phones or tablets that we seem to be connected to all the time? Even if you’re spending time with your children or spouse, having your phone on you can be a great distraction. This takes away from the quality of your family time so that it’s almost like you’re not even there. Instead, turn your phone off and put it down during family time. You can even go as far as storing your phone in a dresser drawer to make sure you’re not tempted to check your text messages or Facebook.

Family Game Nights

Having a regular family game night is a great way to spend quality time with the entire family. This game night can be once a week or a few times a month, depending on what your schedule looks like. No matter what else is going on at work or school, the entire family will get the chance to relax and catch up after a hard week.

One-on-One Time

This tip is especially important if you have multiple kids. Family game nights are fun, but they don’t allow you to catch up on all the important things going on in your children’s lives. Plan on having a little one-on-one time with each of your children. Each week, take one child out for some special time and let your spouse or parents watch the others. If you do not have time to leave the house with the each child separately then spend quality time reading a story or just discussing their day before bedtime. Do this with each of your children so that you can have a little one-on-one quality time with each member of your family.

Date Night

Don’t forget to make quality time with your spouse a priority. You can do this by having a regular date night a few times a month. Your date night can be a quiet dinner at home or an exciting night out on the town. Just find someone to watch the kids and enjoy your alone time.

One of the most important things you can do for your family is spend quality time with them. This can be hard to do if you’re distracted or busy, so be sure to cut those “extras” out of your life. Your entire family will benefit from you making quality time a priority.
