T and I watch Pretty Little Liars together. It’s one of our weekly shows we enjoy. The show is about four girlfriends that lost one of their best friends, Alison, to an unexpected – unresolved murder. The girls start receiving text messages from an anonymous number signed by someone named, A. The messages are little tid bits of secrets they have kept from one another. The mysterious, A blackmails several of the girls by threatening to reveal the truth about their past and present skeletons in the closet. The girls try to ban together to figure out who A really is and how she knows all of their secrets, while all along A is trying to cause problems among them all.
Filled with mystery, scandal, intrigue and nail-biting suspense, Pretty Little Liars is based on the best-selling book series for young adults from Alloy. Set one year after the disappearance of Alison, the manipulative and vindictive queen bee, the one-hour drama revolves around four 16-year-old girlfriends –Aria, Hanna, Spencer and Emily — who have lost touch with one another until each begins to receive mysterious messages suggesting that Alison is watching them and knows their most private details they are desperate to keep hidden.
The show has some typical teenage drama mixed into each episode and plenty of topics brought up for T and I to discuss. One hot topic is about keeping secrets from your best friend. As an adult I can say that I do not tell everyone everything. Obviously everybody has their private matters they prefer to keep to themselves.
When asked if I believe it’s okay to keep secrets I think of this episode….
One of the girls on Pretty Little Liars keeps a secret about her mother from her friends, a secret that is pretty big yet not her own for her to tell. When A finds out the secret she threatens to exposure the girl’s mother to not only her friends but to authorities which could cause problems for her whole family. Of course the girl does whatever A wishes to keep her mother’s secret safe, even from her best friends. When T and I discussed this issue I would have to say we both agreed that the girl was not in the wrong. Some family business is not anyone else’s business. Best friend or not. That’s my opinion.
I can’t say that I think it’s right to keep secrets and it’s always best to not have a secret that needs to be kept. Meaning try not to have skeletons in your closet if at all possible. Secrets are never good. Gossip is always bad. But personal business is just that, your own personal business to keep to yourself.
T and I enjoy watching the tangled webs on Pretty Little Liars and are always surprised at what happens next. Some of the girls live pretty interesting lives and not everything is about a negative secret. Every episode has us itching and guessing more to find out who A truly is.

Full Disclosure: I have been hired by Warner Bros. WBWord division to promote Pretty Little Liars: The Complete First Season on DVD. All opinions are 100% mine.
The LA Times of Pretty Little Liars called it Gossip Girl goes Twin Peaks Lite and after watching the pilot last night I would have to agree with that headline. That much I know. The Vampire Diaries Emily Bennett BtVSs Kendra as Maya was another happily familiar face..Maybe it was the same experience for other avid Vampire Diaries fans but I found the music cues to be sooooo Mystic Fallsian.
