Is Pitch Perfect Appropriate for Teens
I took my 15 year old daughter to see a screening of Pitch Perfect and we absolutely loved it. We usually go to the theaters to see all music and dance related movies. We have a thing for entertainment geared around dancing and singing. Heck you’ll rarely visit our home where we don’t have music playing throughout the house.
We were extremely excited to see Anna Kendrick in her leading role, playing a character much different than the one we came to love in the Twilight Saga. I really think she did a great job in this role; she was able to balance her talents well from singing to drama. Of course I can’t pass up the fact that T and I were literally laughing out loud in the car on the way to the screening just thinking about the movie trailer that spotlights the role played by Rebel Wilson of Fat Amy. Hands down she is hilarious. She has been hilarious in every movie I have seen of hers.
When T was writing her teen review of Pitch Perfect she asked me if I thought it was appropriate for teens under her age. The movie is rated PG-13, which honestly has become a loose rating in my opinion. My teen is so mature for her age that I had not put much thought into it until she brought it up causing me to think about each scene individually. Then I watched some of the trailers again and I’d have to say there are many parts that are for a more mature audience. I think some of the younger crowd may not understand all the commentary and as a mother I would say I would probably even blush if my daughter was much younger watching the movie with me.
There are quite a few references to sex but no nudity or sexual scenes. There is some bad language but nothing you can’t hear on prime time television nowadays. I do recommend seeing the movie. I know that once the movie comes out on DVD we will own it. We still laugh about several parts of the movie and the whole theater was cracking up throughout the screening.
Beca (Anna Kendrick) is that girl who’d rather listen to what’s coming out of her headphones than what’s coming out of you. Arriving at her new college, she finds herself not right for any clique but somehow is muscled into one that she never would have picked on her own: alongside mean girls, sweet girls and weird girls whose only thing in common is how good they sound when they sing together, in the new out-loud comedy Pitch Perfect.
When Beca takes this acoustic singing group out of their world of traditional arrangements and perfect harmonies into all-new mash-ups, they fight to climb their way to the top of the cutthroat world of college a cappella. This could wind up either the coolest thing they’ll ever do or the most insane, and it will probably be a little of both.
