Is Mr. Peabody & Sherman worth the price of a 3D movie ticket?
The kids and I had the privilege of attending a screening of the movie Mr. Peabody & Sherman last week. To be honest I can’t remember the cartoons very well, they were slightly before my time. My teen was a little skeptical after only seeing the trailers and I was intrigued to see how a dog becomes a father of a boy.
We all were very pleasantly surprised. We absolutely loved it! My initial explanation of Mr. Peabody and Sherman movie is that it is the perfect mix between Meet the Robinsons (which was one of my teen’s favorite movies) and Stuart Little. Instead of the movie being based in the future and time traveling back to the present day time like in Meet the Robinsons, Mr. Peabody & Sherman is based in the current time period and they travel back in time to very special events in history to learn how things truly happened. Mr. Peabody uses his WABAC (pronounced Way-Back) machine to teach Sherman about history. It is pretty genius actually.
The 3D effects are stunning. The details in the animation are probably some of the best I have ever seen. As a family we enjoy seeing 3D movies but we don’t always opt for paying that extra expense. With Mr. Peabody & Sherman I would highly recommend seeing it in 3D, skip on the snacks and invest the extra towards the movie ticket. You won’t regret it. You can see every little hair on Peabody. Within the first few minutes of the movie you see a close-up of Peabody’s nose in three dimension and you can clearly see every rough spot and indention that you would normally see on a dog’s nose. It was incredible.

The theater the kids and I saw the screening was newly remodeled with lounge chairs that recline. Literally recline all the way out if you want. With our feet propped up and our 3D glasses on, we were ready to be immersed into the movie. Each time Sherman took off in the WABAC it felt like we were part of the movie and blasting through space. It reminded me of those 4D movie rides at theme parks. The kids loved it.

There are many puns throughout the movie that I’m sure not all of my kids understood. However that’s the beauty of this movie, it was entertaining for all ages. Everyone laughed and awed over the entire movie together.
There is so much action in the form of numerous events taking place that you never know what will happen next. Sherman and his classmate, Penny, sneak off on the WABAC alone, Peabody has to fix their mistakes, many important roles in our history come into play and small lessons are learned throughout the movie. I have no doubt that I will catch something new when I watch it again.
Full Disclosure: My family received free tickets to an early screening of Mr. Peabody & Sherman to write my review. All opinions are 100% mine. I recommend the movie because we truly enjoyed it.
Yes it’s really worth buying the ticket. I love this.
