Noah Battles Childhood Allergies

I wrote this post while participating in a blog tour conducted by Clever Girls Collective on behalf of Children’s Claritin®. I have been compensated for my time commitment to the program.

When Noah was first born I knew he had allergies.  Both of my parents and I suffer from allergies but I was lucky enough to not get them too severe.  Noah’s father on the other hand wasn’t so lucky and unfortunately Noah has taken after him.  For the first year of his life he actually took prescription allergy medication.  Thankfully he outgrew needing a daily dose of medicine to keep away the runny nose but he still goes through the regular allergy season with issues.

I can always tell when Noah’s allergies start acting up because his eyes will be watery and he’ll have a slightly runny nose.  Sometimes he’ll even suffer from some puffiness in his face around his eyes.  This year was a little rougher since he was going to a private Pre-K outside of the home.  He was exposed to daily outdoor activity even on the days that I would normally keep him inside to relax.  Sometimes his allergies would be mistaken for a cold that could spread, even though that wasn’t the case.  Luckily with him being an energetic four year old his allergies haven’t kept him down long and over the counter medication always helps.

Steps that I have taken to help with Noah’s allergies are:

  • use a protective mattress pad on his bed
  • dust more often – the whole house and vacuum after dusting
  • use the lint roller to make sure I get all of our dog’s hair off of any furniture
  • change his bed sheets more often than normal and he uses allergen-proof pillows
  • at least twice a year I shampoo all carpets in the house
