Minnie’s Food Pantry Featured at HOME Red Carpet

DreamWorks HOME came to Plano, Texas for a red carpet premiere thanks to Good Morning America and Minnie’s Food Pantry.

Good Morning America hosted the ‘Bring HOME to Your Hometown‘ contest and Cheryl Jackson was the recipient. Cheryl is the Founder of Minnie’s Food Pantry based in Plano, Texas.

Minnie’s Food Pantry is named after Cheryl’s mother, Minnie.  Minnie’s story is one that touches the local community.  Watching her own mother struggle during her childhood to put food on the table led Minnie to open her doors to anyone in the neighborhood that was hungry.  Cheryl says she remembers her childhood home having a revolving door to their local community, where her parents were always feeding someone.  Hearing her mother share stories of being hungry and realizing the sad statistics that one out of five children suffers from hunger, Cheryl was inspired to open Minnie’s Food Pantry in 2008.

I applaud Cheryl’s efforts and passion.  You can see the light in her eyes beaming with enthusiasm for her mission.  She is literally changing the world.  Her mission may have only started in Plano, Texas but thanks to Good Morning America she has now been featured across national media.  GMA not only awarded her the prize of bringing HOME to her hometown, they also partnered with DreamWorks to donate 50,000 meals!  Can you just imagine how much that will aid Cheryl at her food pantry?  That would food almost 2,400 people three meals a day for a solid week!

The red carpet premiere in Plano, Texas for DreamWork Animation’s HOME featured celebrities Jim Parsons and Rihanna.  The Director Tim Johnson and Producers Mireille Soria & Suzanne Buirgy were also in attendence.

The DreamWorks HOME team sure seemed to enjoy themselves.  They were all smiles and very playful with one another.

I can only imagine what a blast it was to work with them.  As they are touring for interviews and press junkets in promotion of their new movie you can tell they have gotten a little close.  The silliness that comes with animation came across on the red carpet.  Silliness, but fun!

Jim Parsons and Rihanna

Jim Parsons and Rihanna were both extremely photogenic.  Rihanna was a little live wire, bouncing around.  It was almost difficult to capture a shot of her being still.  Luckily Andrew was able to grab a few really great photos before the premiere.

Opening in theaters March 27, 2015.

I encourage you to visit Minnie’s Food Pantry and donate a meal.  Skip buying one coffee this week and donate a couple of dollars to feed a child in need.  Then head out to see HOME in theaters this opening weekend as a family.  You will surely love it.  We did!

Full Disclosure: My family attended the red carpet premiere with celebrity guests as part of the media. We attended the moving screening of HOME to conduct a review.  My full review is coming soon.  All opinions and photos are 100% my own.

  1. Hello MommaDJane,
This is Cheryl Action Jackson. I wanted to say thank you for showing our charity so much love in this article… I am so excited about having a national platform to speak about hunger and my prayers were answered through GMA and Dreamworks Animation. I can tell you first hand that the entire cast and crew treated me like a Hollywood celebrity and I fit right at HOME! I am joining you this week to watch HOME again with my family and friends– any movie that feeds the hungry feeds my soul…
Again, thanks for the write up and the skip the coffee challenge!

    1. Thank you for commenting, Cheryl. I agree with you…. I love when a large company such as DreamWorks gives back to the community and their fans! Makes me even more eager to spend money on a movie ticket.

  2. My Dad was telling me about the preview for this movie. He saw the preview before ME and was all laughing hysterically wanting to see this movie when it is out on DVD. I was like “what you talking about? I ain’t seen no movie doing that…. now you have me curious” then I saw you were covering this screening! I am so excited to see this come out in theaters, I may even go on my own when kids are gone, because Lord knows them boys won’t sit at the theater unless I spend crazy $$ on the arcade afterwards that they have outside the theater area… ugh!

    1. This movie is truly worth the money. The message is sweet and surprisingly it was one that I was a little emotional in… even for an animation flick. We loved it. I can’t wait until it comes out on DVD to buy for the kids.
