If you normally take family vacations, it might seem a bit strange at first to consider going on a short break without the kids. But couples need to spend time together without the kids, and a short weekend or week-long break is the perfect way to spend some quality time together.
If you don’t know where to start with all the planning, here are some tips to help you make your short break away from the kids a reality.
Don’t Feel Guilty
First of all, don’t feel guilty about wanting to get away without the kids. You are not a bad parent for wanting some time away, and it’s important for any relationship.
It might be hard to do when the moment comes to leave, but don’t feel bad. Think of it as a way to recharge your batteries so you can give them, even more, love when you return.
Sort Out Childcare
Once you know you want to go away, sort out the childcare arrangements. It’s hard to start planning for your trip without getting this sorted out first.
The first option most parents consider is the grandparents, so see if that’s an option. If not, look at other family members or good friends who could help out.
Once you’ve found someone, plan everything for them carefully. You’ll want to start doing this as soon as possible. Plan their clothes, meals, medicines, and anything else they will need to take the pressure off whoever is looking after the kids.
The easier it is for them, the more likely they are to offer to look after the kids again!
Choose the Perfect Location
Decide on the ideal destination where you can enjoy some quality time together. This might mean different things for different people, and you can get some ideas here.
You might prefer a quiet destination out in the country where you can enjoy some peace, or you might want the complete opposite by going on a city break to somewhere like Las Vegas where you can let your hair down without the kids around. Speak to your partner and decide on somewhere together.
Find the Right Hotel
You’ll want to choose your hotel carefully. First of all, it should be somewhere that you can relax and treat yourself. If you’re heading on a weekend break to Las Vegas, somewhere like the JW Marriott could be the ideal place to pamper yourself.
But also make sure it’s easy to reach. If you did need to return home in an emergency, you want to be able to get to the airport quickly, and this will just give you more peace of mind when you are away from the kids.
Choose a Way to Stay in Contact
While you probably won’t want to be speaking to your kids all the time you are away, it’s still important to have a way to contact them and be contacted. You could speak over Skype on your phone, or you might prefer to message using WhatsApp.
The good thing about WhatsApp is that you can ask the grandparents to send over pictures and videos of your kids. That way, you can see what they are up to without having to set aside time to chat.
Enjoy Your Time Away as a Couple
It’s so important for couples to be able to get away from it all for a short time and spend some quality time together without the kids. If you feel like you could do with some time away, don’t feel guilty. Instead, plan properly, choose the perfect place to escape, and enjoy spending time with your partner without the kids around.
