How to Get Creative with Your littleBits Droid

|

During my trip to LA, where I was hosted by Disney Studios, last October I was given the opportunity to get hands-on experience with the littleBits R2-D2 Droid Inventor Kit. After my son heard about their fun #InventorsWanted competition he had to enter! In his below video he shows you how to get creative with your littleBits droid.

He gathered some cardboard from around the house, raided my craft section for spray paint and paint markers, grabbed duck tape and got creative. He wanted his droid to be able to deliver pizza and a drink and he was successful at it.

A few challenges he faced when getting creative were:

Balance

He made his Robot Carrier 6000 much larger than the original droid underneath. Which meant he had to work on it to get it balanced. He used the paper towel rolls to act as bumpers so it wouldn’t tip or run into anything, causing the drink to spill.

Support

To hold the plate up enough so the pizza did not fall off, he built support arms with thicker cardboard and used tape to hold them in place under the platform the plates were sitting on.

Battery Life

After he built his Robot Carrier 6000, he tested it so much that by the time it came to creating his contest video, the battery went dead. I’m not even kidding, right as I clicked record. The cardboard was all secured in place and now he had to get the battery out. This was the first time he had changed the battery since Christmas so I was impressed it lasted that long.

Thankfully, he built a side door into his Carrier and the flap opened enough that he could put his arm inside and lift it up. I held the droid in the air while he changed the battery out. This was the only part I helped him with, besides recording the video.

Although I attended a sponsored event in October, I was not required to share this blog post and Noah’s entry into the contest is all on his own.
