Three of our children have summer birthdays. My mom’s birthday is in the summer and so is my sister’s and two nieces. For our family, during the summer we are celebrating almost non-stop. We are ending the summer by celebrating our son’s 15th birthday tomorrow, August 2nd. He loves to go fishing so we put together this Fisherman Gift Basket.
When planning for birthday celebrations I love shopping at Walmart for American Greetings. Every moment, big or small, is worthy of a card.
Do you have the ibotta app? Last week I earned $15 while grocery shopping at Walmart! From now until August 31st you can earn $1 for any American Greetings card you purchase.
One of our son’s favorite things to do is go out on his kayak fishing. When I spotted this birthday card featuring a peaceful lake scene, I knew it was the one. I know the photo is of a canoe but Destination: Happiness is exactly the feeling he will get when seeing it.
The inside is beautiful as well. The photo on the left side of the card is so realistic. I’m always amazed at the wonderful quality produced by American Greetings.
Since I knew I was putting together a gift basket I wanted to find ways to dress it up. Instead of just tossing items into the basket that was too big to wrap, I purchased some tissue paper to line the basket. You can also add a bow to the outside of your basket.
This double pack of American Greetings tissue paper is perfect to use for all of our summer birthday celebrations. I love the vibrant colors. When picking colors to use in his gift basket, I matched the card.
First, I layered some blue tissue paper to match the card font and lake water. I pushed the paper down into the basket on all sides but one. You can see it slightly stands out more on one side.
Next, I added a layer of yellow tissue paper. I turned the basket slightly to place this layer on the opposite side. This way the part of the tissue paper that is sticking out more is in a different area.
Finally, I added a green tissue paper layer. Again, I turned the basket so this layer was sticking out in another section. You can clearly see all three colors of tissue paper from all sides of the basket. Once you have all of your layers in place, slowly push them down further into the basket all at the same time by placing your hand in the middle of the basket.
The tissue paper highlights the colors in the card and dresses up the basket.
Now it’s time to full your Fisherman Gift Basket.
Fisherman Gift Basket
While shopping at Walmart I was able to grab several items that were perfect for a fisherman gift basket. Remember, you don’t have to only include items that are made for fishing. When he is out on the water it comes in handy to have snacks and a way to stay hydrated.
- Fishing Bait
- Lures
- Rope
- Extra Fishing String
- Cooling Towel
- Hat or Ball Cap
- Sunscreen
- Snacks
- Bottled Water
What item would you add to your fisherman’s gift basket?
I can never seem to buy just one card when I go. Today, August 1st is National Girlfriend’s Day, August 6th is Sisters Day and Friendship Day and August 27th is Just Because Day.
What better way to brighten someone’s day, lift their spirits, let them know you support them, are thinking of them or to thank them than by presenting them with a “random acts of cardness.”
One of my girlfriends has been dealing with some stressful work crap lately so this cute ice cream card is perfect. I also never thought about the fact that stressed spelled backwards is desserts! That’s awesome.
A card is just a card, until it is given in the right moment. A few simple words can mean everything and have a greater impact than we realize.
My best friend is having her baby shower soon and I cannot wait. My youngest daughter is 15 so to say I’m excited about her having a little girl is an understatement. This beautiful American Greetings card is embossed on the inside. The hot air balloon is sparkly with glitter.
What are you celebrating this summer?
You can find American Greetings at your local Walmart.
What a cute idea for a gift! I love the colored tissue paper and buy it often for wrapping gifts.
My dad will love something like this. thanks!
