I love crafting with my kids. While at Walmart picking up our Quilted Northern my daughter and I decided to venture to the craft isle. I have been teasing my son lately that I’m going to hang a sign in the bathroom that says “Don’t Forget to Wash Your Hands” since I seem to find the need to remind him almost daily. So my daughter and I decided that is exactly what we would do – create a sign!
Quilted Northern Ultra Soft & Strong® with Cleanstretch® toilet paper has a unique construction that limits tissue ripping and separation. It is designed to be strong, flexible and soft for overall durable comfort. Sewer and Septic Safe which is imperative when living in the country!
In July Quilted Northern came out with a new toilet paper pattern and product packaging for a more modern look and feel. We noticed this on our shelves right away since we have been using the 100 year old brand my entire life.
I let Gabby select the paint colors and the stickers for our canvas sign.
Supplies
- Canvas
- Craft Paint
- Paint Brush
- Letter Stickers (we used two different colors)
All of these supplies were found on the same isle at our local Walmart store in the craft section, near the scrapbook materials. We could not figure out if we should use a pink background or teal. Since the stickers were a neon green/yellow color we weren’t sure how they would look up against the teal. Once we got home we tested it on paper and they looked best on a pink backdrop.
How to Make a Bathroom Sign with Kids
It took two full coats of paint to cover the entire canvas without any white peeking through.
To make sure we lined up the letters straight we used a ruler. My husband offered us his level but it was too large for this project. The ruler worked perfect by aligning it against the side of the canvas. Then we were able to add the stickers so they were flush with the ruler.
We could have used a smaller canvas but my daughter is pleased with how it turned out. This simple yet fun DIY project is now ready to hang in their bathroom.
After adding all the letter stickers to complete the phrase “Don’t forget to wash your hands” I felt I should sign it. You know how you see those signs in public restrooms that are always signed “Thanks, Management”. This just provides the kids with a little reminder that the friendly reminder is coming from mom.
