Life Lessons Disney Movies Teach You

|

No one teaches a life lesson better than Disney. Generation after generation has grown up sitting around the family room enjoying a Disney movie together. There’s something magical about the entertainment value and lessons learned along the way when you sit down with the family to enjoy a classic or new Disney film. Since I’m such a huge fan of Disney, I thought this was a great way to inspire others to fall in love with Disney all over again.

disney movie life lessons you can learn on family movie night

Here are some life lessons that Disney movies teach you and your children.  Even if you have seen these movies before, I encourage you to take time this summer to squeeze them into your weekly movie night and discuss the lessons learned.

To Be Yourself

Disney Princess Mulan

In the movie, Mulan, Disney depicts a girl who wants to prove herself to her father. She goes to war to fight and this is not something a female was normally allowed to do. Mulan does what she feels is right, even when she knows it may dishonor her family. This movie teaches you to be whoever you want to be, regardless of what anyone else says. The strength, courage, and confidence shown in the character, Mulan, truly shows us how to stand firm when it comes to being the person we desire to be.

Family Is Not Only Blood

Family with Stitch

Lilo and Stitch may seem a little off the beaten path where there’s an alien and this little girl who become fast friends, but it teaches a very important life lesson. Within this film, you’ll find that family isn’t always about who has the same bloodline. This is one of my favorite movies that teach about the love that forms from two people who are great friends and care for each other in the way you would normally see from someone who was born into your families, such as a parent or sibling.

You Can Do Anything

Princess Tiana from Princess and the Frog

Disney shows you that you can do anything you want if you remain determined enough. In the movie, The Princess and the Frog, you watch a middle-class girl try to pursue her father’s dream of opening up a restaurant. No matter what this girl has to do, she does it. All on a mission to achieve the goal of opening up a restaurant when no one thought she could. This movie will surely inspire you to know that you are capable of doing big things if you simply do the hard work to get there.

Listen To Your Instincts

Gabby with Rapunzel

In the Disney movie, Tangled, we see Rapunzel struggle between listening to her instincts telling her something is wrong and trying to remain a well-behaved daughter. She stays in her tower believing she is unsafe for 18 years. Mother Gothel kidnapped her when she was a baby and convinces her she is her mother. While growing up, Rapunzel has a pull to see the lanterns and a strong feeling something is out in the world for her. It is a wonderful reminder that we should all listen to that inner voice when we believe something is wrong.

Always Be Kind

Cinderella is a classic Disney movie that showcases a girl who’s treated poorly and meanly by her stepmother and stepsisters. In this film, you’ll see a young girl continue to do what’s right, even when you want her to seek revenge on those who are mean to her. No matter what, Cinderella remains true to her morals and ultimately gets the fairy tale ending that she never dreamed possible. This Disney movie teaches the life lesson that you should always be kind, no matter how people treat you.

This list of Disney movie life lessons could go on for a much longer blog post. All of the films that Disney releases will share a life lesson of some sort with you and your kids if you just pay close enough attention.

  1. This is such a beautiful post. I love Disney movies, the oldest and I enjoy singing most of their songs from all of their movies. It’s like our habit, at times, to just break out in a Disney tune. They are truly a fun, family-friendly way to enjoy time together while teaching some hidden life lessons.
