Batkid Begins – Make-a-Wish Foundation

As you may know the Make-a-Wish Foundation has a very special place in my heart. When Gabby received her Wish trip in 2007 before her first major brain surgery it gave our family an escape from the long doctor visits and life-altering decision making. That one week trip to a magical place will always be special memories in my heart.

On November 15, 2013, San Francisco was transformed into “Gotham City” for one 5-year-old Wish Kid named Miles Scott, who had fought leukemia (and won!). Unfortunately living in Texas prevented us from being a part of Miles’s big day but it didn’t stop me from following along on social media.

I love that Miles picked Batman as his superhero! Although if you asked my family which superhero they would be for the day; Andrew would pick Superman, T would pick Thor and Noah would pick Captain America – however, I would pick Batman! Hands down.

Batman is just an ordinary, every day business man fighting for good. Although, he is a very wealthy man so he has all the means to buy his gadgets. He was once just a boy afraid of the very thing he now pretends to be, a bat. I think that is the part of Batman’s story that is the most inspirational. Overcoming your fear to help others. Just like Miles dealt with fear during his battle against Leukemia. It’s only fitting that his wish was to be Batkid for the day.
