Halloween Cakepops for Cake Walk

This past week I learned how to make cakepops.  Noah saw them on television and then again at Party City (their Halloween kit) and has been begging me to make them with him.  Then I drooled over Emily’s cakepop ideas on her blog and knew I had to try it.

I took the easy way out and bought the Babycakes Cakepop Maker from Kohl’s.  I am not real big on sweets and icing so creating the cakepops using this maker took out the extra step of using icing to mold the cake balls which worked perfect for me.  I used the disposable Wilton pouches made for icing to easily fill the Cakepop Maker with cake batter.  The circles in the pan are so small it was truly the best way to keep things clean and the process move smoothly.

The Babycakes Cakepop Maker came with a nice cooling tray for the cakepops.  This worked perfect for the first round of 12.  However a batch of cake mix makes roughly 40 cakepops so I purchased a separate stand which also worked perfect for decorating purposes.

The kids loved getting in the kitchen and helping me bake.  Of course Gabby’s favorite part was licking the mixer clean at the end.  They knew I was making the cakepops for our church so they were happy to help.  Of course there were a few mess-ups that they got to eat along the way.

I enjoy teaching my kids how to get involved with our community.  This week for Week 3 in our 12 Weeks of Giving we all gathered together to make cakepops to donate for our church’s Trunk or Treat.  They hosted their annual Halloween festival for the local community, everyone was invited not just church members.  The cake walk was a huge hit and the kids loved winning goodies.  I was glad we were able to donate some fun and kid-friendly treats and my kids were proud of them.

For the cake walk I packaged the cakepops up in groups of four in cute little Halloween containers.  They turned out to be a big hit and super easy to do.

I also donated a few items for the prize baskets they gave away for children’s best costume.  We saw some of the most adorable costumes with my favorite being a little toddler dressed as a Gnome from Gnomio and Juliet.  Totally adorable and I was excited to see him win!
