Angostura Aromatic Bitters – Strawberry Basil Balsamic Mojito
Numerous times on my blog I have expressed my love for strawberries. In July I specifically mentioned trying a Strawberry Basil Balsamic Mojito for the first time at a blogger event for California Strawberries. I do not drink often so when I do I’m slightly picky. The drink can not be too sweet or I won’t be able to finish it. The Strawberry Basil Balsamic Mojito was perfect. Last weekend I finally had the chance to test out making them myself.
Ingredients for one cocktail:
- 3/4 cup of strawberries
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
- 2 lime quarters
- 4 basil leaves
- one shot of rum
- splash of soda water
- dash of balsamic vinegar
- 2 dashes of Angostura aromatic bitters
Directions:
Muddle strawberries, sugar, lime and basil leaves until juicy in bottle of your glass. Add shot of rum. Fill glass with ice and a splash of soda. Stir; add another splash of soda. Top with a dash of vinegar and two dashes of Angostura aromatic bitters. Garnish with a strawberry or a sprig of basil.
Funny story and quick tip… I had no idea what muddle meant. I told you I don’t drink much. So yes, I had to Google it. Obviously I do not own a muddler therefore I put all the ingredients in the glass to be muddled and used a plastic cup that was smaller than my glass to push the ingredients down until they were juicy. It worked perfectly.
The cocktail was a big hit for everyone. My sister came over to try it and the first one I made I accidentally put a little too much balsamic vinegar but I learned quickly to tilt the bottle slightly. We both enjoyed the Strawberry Basil Balsamic Mojito and honestly I think it tasted just as good as the one that was served at the event I attended.
Another drink that I enjoy when attending events or cocktail parties is the Champagne Cocktail. I can’t wait to try out this simple drink recipe from Angostura.
Ingredients:
- 1 white sugar cube
- 2 dashes of Angostura aromatic bitters
- 1 dash of Angostura orange bitters
- champagne
Directions:
Drop sugar cube into champagne flute, saturated with the bitters. Top with champagne. Garnish with lemon peel.
Sounds pretty easy, right? Some people refer to them as a chick drink but I do know some men like them as well. Either way they are pretty popular. I may have to serve them at my next dinner party.
