Test Results Are In – Gabby Update
The Infectious Disease Specialist saw us this past Monday and gave us the test results from Gabby’s two cultures. It showed to be MRSA, which is staph. We are all pretty surprised with the results even though the signs were displaying staph, it just didn’t add up. Unfortunately this means no swimming still so we had to cancel our plans to visit the indoor waterpark with family.
The doctor can not determine if the staph has truly infected her fluid around her brain or not. Matter of fact he isn’t even sure if the infection has reached the bone. Since the knot on her head showed on her MRI in 2007 we know something was forming under the skin at that time. The knot didn’t form on top of the scalp until this past October, 2010. The doctor can not confirm if the knot itself is from staph or if the knot developed a staph infection. For now, we treat the MRSA and wait…
The Infectious Disease Specialist released Gabby to visit family so we headed to Tennessee the next day. The kids are enjoying their time relaxing and swinging outdoors. It’s nice to be away from the Texas heat for a while.
Gabby has been on the new antibiotic for over a week now and the doctor also prescribed her a topical cream. I wish I could say it’s getting better but honestly it’s worse. The knot is starting to bother her, itch and is oozing more than it was after he punctured it. He told us on Monday it should start getting better and if it was still oozing or if it looked worse in a week then he may have to do a CT-scan. The bad news about that is the fact we are in TN and not available to just ‘show up‘ for a scan. However I know if it means loading in the car on Monday and driving home, that’s what I’ll do. I plan to call him and ask if I can send a photo via email so he can determine if there is anything he can do long distance.
I hate that our family time may be cut short but with two antibiotics and it’s still getting worse… I’m worried.
Oh babe, I’m praying for you both. My mom is in the trauma field and suggests that everyone with MRSA bathe in tea tree oil soap. It kills MRSA naturally. You might want to dilute and put on sore as well if you are are comfortable.
Please call me if you need anything whatsoever.
MRSA is so tough to treat. Try what Lisa’s mom said. It certainly won’t hurt. I have been away from hospital work for 20 years so don’t know what is the current treatment regimen. But at least you are on the right track now with infectious disease working on it. Take care and enjoy your break as much as you can.
Praying for Gabby!!
I hope it gets better! BIG HUGS!!!!
Oh Dwan I am so sorry. She is such a trooper and you are an amazing mom.
I’m praying for all of you. For the strength to deal with this and a quick solution – finally – so this poor kid can start feeling better.
Big hugs my friend.
Dwan, definitely keeping y’all in my thoughts & prayers! I really hope they can figure out what’s going on and bring some peace and comfort for Gabby and you.
