To Date a Blogger or Not
For this week’s ‘Because I Said So’ topic we are going with would you marry/date a blogger? Or maybe the topic isn’t as clear cut as a simple question on whether or not you would date or marry a blogger but maybe for Buck‘s sake if he would like his wife to start blogging. Obviously he is already married and for those who don’t know, his wife doesn’t run a blog. I’m not married and I can admit I’ve never dated a blogger.
To Date a Blogger or Not To Date a Blogger ~ That is the question…
When this topic first came up I thought of Brandy’s Top Ten list she put together of the Top Ten reasons to never date a blogger. It was put together as a form of entertainment and is pretty hilarious. Although she didn’t expect anyone to walk away with real value from the post or truly hold bloggers accountable to what was listed, some points are very true. Brandy succeeded in making many people laugh with this post and I recommend reading it for a few chuckles.
Being a single mom, when I do decide to get back into the dating scene, I will say if I am approached by a fellow blogger I wouldn’t turn them down JUST because they are a blogger. When sitting down to type this post I juggled with the thoughts of feeling like I would be competing with my significant other. Which of us could grow their blog larger or faster. Who was a better writer or most influential. But then I truly thought about it…. I think most bloggers band together. To be honest I don’t feel like I am competing with other mom bloggers so therefore I should definitely not feel like I was competing with my significant other. Plus the odds of me and the person I was dating to both have blogs within the same niche is probably pretty slim, although I’m sure it could happen.
On a serious note… Here are some thoughts to keep in mind. If you do date a blogger and both of you share the same passion to grow your blog and become an avid social media user it might not be a bad idea to set some boundaries. Respect and support of each other should always come number one over either blog or any social media platform. Maintaining a blog is a lot of work, especially if it is solely or even partly used as a business so try to be understanding of one another’s time.
From my experience in dating non-bloggers it can be hard to explain the purpose, the passion and especially the long term goal. Some non-bloggers just don’t ‘get it’. Both partners in a relationship being active with social media and owners of a blog might be a nice change. At least you would have someone to understand and share things with. Knowledge being the most beneficial.
My conclusion: When I start to date I say bring on the bloggers. Preferably a blogger who is way more advanced than me with lots of SEO tips. I’m thinking free knowledge, advice and mentoring all the way! And if the blogger happens to be someone just starting out…. Well I’m always looking for a good cook or help around the house in exchange for my tips and help with social media. I’m all about a 50/50 relationship, you know.
Now I’m headed over to read BuckDaddy‘s response to this week’s topic. You coming?

It is my observation that a blogger indirectly reveals more about him/herself through their blog than could be obtained from weeks of dating. So, if you like the personality behind that blog..well…
Of course, if you actually marry one, and you are not one, you will wave bye to them as they go off to blogworld or some other nefarious meeting without you. Of course they are kind of “gone” anyways when they are blogging–or so my wife says. So, I say blog/date/marry on!!!

Good post. Thank goodness Melinda and I are on the same blog. LOL. No competition here.
You bring up some great ideas. Too bad I’m already married and can’t go back and make sure she is an SEO expert. 🙁 That and I love her
Buck:
After reading your comment the song ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’ immediately starting playing in my head. I thought about busting out the lyrics in this comment but I do believe with anyone reading the title, then they are hearing the song playing in their head right now.
But on a serious note, that’s sweet you love her and I do expect to see one rocking craft blog when she decides to start it since you have the experience to teach her. 🙂
