Grandparents, you gotta love ’em
Since T and my grandmother have birthdays only four days apart, our family just got together for one double celebration this year. T’s grandfather on her father’s side is still very close to my family, therefore was invited. {That’s actually a long story for another time} As a way to be helpful with the celebration her grandpa asked me if he could pick up the cake. Of course, I said yes. He was very eager to please and thought a sheet cake divided in half, one side for grandma and one side for T, was a great idea. He took pride into picking roses on grandma’s side since those are her favorites and having it decorated in pink and purple on T’s side.
The night before he ordered the cake he spent a full hour going through photos with his girlfriend, reminiscing old times and picking what he thought would be perfect for the cake. He had an old photo of my grandma that is super silly but a favorite in our family. Now of course she is totally embarassed by it and if she actually knew what a blog was and that I was placing this photo for so many to see… well she’d probably disown me. Then comes the photo he chose for T’s side of the cake. Throughout the years I had given him school photos which during his last move all got placed together with all his family photos that were important to him. Before I go on, let’s take a look at the gorgeous cake.
I literally crack up each time I see this photo. This was one year that won’t be forgot by anyone in my family, especially T. What is wrong with this beautiful cake, you ask? The problem is… that photo is not T, it is her aunt. Her grandpa’s girlfriend picked up the cake and delivered it early to my grandma’s before the birthday celebration get together. My niece was the first to see and let us all know the mistake. At this point it was too late to fix and honestly too funny to not acknowledge. Her grandpa was embarrassed and we still aren’t 100% sure if he mixed up some photos before heading to the bakery or if he really believed that was T. We all laughed so hard that night and as each person looked at the cake for the first time it never got old hearing ‘that’s not T’ or ‘that’s Amber’.
As you see T and her aunt, Amber, do look a lot alike. But even though they look very familiar I can see many differences and have to admit that photo on the cake looks nothing like T. I guess that’s why it is so funny.
Here is a photo of T with her grandpa, whom will never live down the photo mistake and each year will have to listen to us giggle.
Love the cakes!!

Isn’t that hilarious?! The cake was beautiful, just hopefully next time T’s cake will actually have her on it instead of her aunt! 😉
