Spring is finally here, my favorite season for outdoor fun with the family!  I put together a list of 31 fun things to do in March with the family. Whether you are headed out for a spring break family vacation or looking for things to do at home, this list is sure to have something everyone will enjoy.

1. Visit Tulip Fields

Check your area for a local tulip farm. We have one in Pilot Point, Texas called Texas Tulips that allows visitors to come and take photos in the tulips fields and pick their own to take home a bouquet. It is so much fun for the entire family and makes for beautiful photos.

2. Dr. Seuss Day

We love Dr. Seuss in our home! March 2nd is Dr. Seuss’s birthday so dust off those old Dr. Seuss books and make it storytime. There are also loads of craft ideas you can find on Pinterest or serve up some green eggs for breakfast!

3. Plan a Staycation

Even if you have a vacation planned for spring break, planning a staycation is always fun. It can be long or short, even a weekend staycation is exciting. You can make it a themed staycation with activities and food that go with a specific topic or take a day to do something fun in your town. 4. Host Oscars Viewing Party

March 4th brings the Oscars on television. Host a fun Oscars viewing party with your family and neighbors. Pop some popcorn and set out your favorite snacks. You can also host a movie night to watch the Oscars winners later in the month.

5. Go Camping

Our family loves to go camping. We take short trips to our local state parks or stay at the camping grounds at the local lake. Pack your meals to make it an inexpensive trip. We even take the dogs with us for some family fun. Hiking, biking, and fishing are almost always on our camping list.

7. Make S’mores

There are so many s’mores recipes online. Our favorite way to have s’mores is the old fashion traditional way over a campfire. We love roasting marshmallows. 8. Visit Botanical Gardens

Check your local Botanical Gardens for fun free events during spring. March is when the blooms start to open and butterflies come out. We love taking a frisbee and picnic to our Fort Worth Botanical Gardens. 

9. Visit Local Zoo

Most zoos have a day that is half-price or coupons available during spring break. Turn the day into an educational experience by teaching the kids fun facts about each animal they see. We used to only visit our local zoo when the kids had a school field trip, now we make it a point to spend a day there as a family. Plus, have you ever fed the giraffes? 

10. Play Nintendo to Celebrate Mario Day

March 10th is National Mario Day. What better way to celebrate than playing Nintendo as a family? Do you own a Wii U or Nintendo Switch? If not, there are fun Mario games in the App Store for your smartphone. Challenge one another to a game of Mario Cart.

11. Go Geocaching

We love geocaching as a family. It’s like going on a mission to find a secret and you are always surprised. We share details of geocaching across states during one of our road trips.

14. Go Fishing

15. Participate in local 5K Race or Fun Run

There are several charities that are close to our family. We love joining our community for a fun run as a family. It teaches giving back while encouraging exercise. Don’t worry, you do not have to run!

16. Visit Amusement Park

We are headed to Disney World for our spring break vacation but when we stick around Texas we love visiting Six Flags. Which amusement park is close to you?

17. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

19. Learn to Draw Cartoons

Who is your favorite cartoon character? You can find tutorials for learning to draw on YouTube and Pinterest. Have fun with it!

20. Host a Tea Party for Two

It’s National Tea Party for Two Day and make it a good one by serving up some glasses of iced tea and small sandwiches. Your kids do not have to be young to host a fun tea party at home. Invite their friends over for brunch!

21. Go to a Museum

22. Cabbage Bowling

This is a real thing, I just learned about. Apparently, people go bowling with everything. In honor of St. Patrick’s Day local events will pop up that offer cabbage bowling, or visit your grocery store to buy your own.

23. Volunteer at Animal Shelter

National Puppy Day is March 23rd so spend some time with the family playing with puppies! Whether you have a dog at home or not, take a trip to the animal shelter to donate a bag of food or volunteer time playing with the dogs.

24. Family Basketball Game

It’s March Madness Time! Even if you are not a huge basketball fan, nothing beats a little family fun outdoors. Spring is a great time to go outside and shoot hoops. No need to worry about following the rules of the game, just have fun!

25. Make Homemade Waffles

Celebrate National Waffle Day in March with homemade waffles. Toss in some fresh fruit or chocolate chips to get fancy. 

26. Create Your Own Holiday

I love all these random and odd National Days we have. No idea who came up with the Create Your Own Holiday but it is going down in March! Spark your child’s creativity and let them make up their own holiday to celebrate.

27. Grow a Butterfly

We grew butterflies from caterpillars when Gabby was little. It was such a fascinating and rewarding experience. You can buy a full kit on Amazon for growing butterflies. You will learn while you watch them grow from caterpillars change into chrysalides and then emerge as beautiful Painted Lady Butterflies within three weeks.

30. Visit Drive-in Movie Theater

I have yet to visit a drive-in movie theater! It is on my list for this spring. My teens have gone with their friends and I am totally jealous. It looks so fun. We have three in the DFW Metroplex that I am aware of, but google the closest drive-in movie to you and grab your blankets and lawn chairs.

31. Spring Clean

Make spring cleaning fun! Yes, it is possible. Create a chart or turn it into a game. Let everyone pitch in and create a prize or family activity to reward everyone when you are done. Kids are motivated by challenges and rewards, use that to your benefit.
