Family Fun at Scarborough Fair
I have been visiting Scarborough Fair for as long as I can remember. When I was a little girl my parents would dress me up in the adorable little peasant dresses and venture out to the Renaissance Festival. I have attended almost every year since then. It has become a tradition. I now take my own family and even my teenage daughter enjoys getting into costume.
Walking around Scarborough Fair provides enough sights to see around every corner. The mix of costumes from the renaissance time period stretches beyond just the workers. Even the guests of the faire join in on the fun, it’s hard to tell which is an employee and which isn’t.
There is a schedule of shows going on the entire day. With several stages and even some shows taking place in large fields, there is literally constant entertainment of a wide variety.
The Kamikaze Fireflies were an amazing duo. We sat up close and watched their show. Juggling fire impressive?
How about juggling fire on top of five chairs?!
Needless to say the boys loved the Fire Whip show. Before he pulled out the fire action he did many tricks with other whips and the sound of the crack was astounding. I wouldn’t want to be him when he first started to learn. I’m sure he accidentally hit himself at least once. I could only imagine hitting myself on the wrist with a whip – it would hurt, break skin even! All while he was cracking whips on stage he was telling jokes that kept the kids giggling, adults too.
Andrew really enjoyed the Birds of Prey show. The Eagle was huge.
My favorite was the little owl. Isn’t it cute? It makes me want one!
A new attraction for us this year was the Mermaid Lagoon. I think Gabby really enjoyed getting to meet two mermaids and have her photo taken with them. They were very friendly as well.
What I love most about Scarborough Fair is that the whole park transforms. There are musicians sitting outside enjoying the weather and playing their instruments. Artisans are greeting customers in their shops to show and tell about their crafts. Ladies sit outside to braid hair in every style you could imagine and there are two stations to receive your festival henna. The food is even renaissance themed.
The parade takes place daily at 1pm throughout the festival grounds and it really gives you a chance to see all the various clothing. Several of the entertainers promote their shows during the parade as well.
To keep with the tradition of going back in time even the rides are man-made. No popup carnival rides at this festival. I think my daughter enjoys the rides at Scarborough Fair over the rides at Six Flags.
The kids loved this ride. The workers used the red boards coming out from the bottom to push until the ride twisted to the top. Then they let it go and it spun around while it came untwisted. It actually spun pretty fast! All of my kids rode it twice.
The rides aren’t the only man-made activities. The games are as well! Our boys thought the Jacob’s Ladder challenge looked so easy. I couldn’t help but laugh when they never made it further than the second step. If you make it to the top and ring the bell, you win $5.
Turkey legs, Italian ice, fish & chips and sugar roasted almonds completed our day at the faire.

Full Disclosure: My family received four tickets to attend the Scarborough Fair Renaissance Festival this season in exchange for this review. All opinions are 100% my own and we go each year at our own expense because we truly enjoy it.
Do you attend the renaissance festival in your town?
