DIY Laurel Wreath Crown

Greece Educational Craft for Kids

Laurel wreaths have long been enjoyed by those in Greece, especially when competing in ancient games and sporting events. A laurel wreath on the head was typically symbolic of a win, and brought honor to the person wearing it. You can make your own DIY laurel wreath crown using just a few simple supplies and in just a few minutes. Children will love competing in their own Grecian themed activities and events and being crowned victor after! Take a look at how to make your own.

Here is what you will need:

  • Green construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Paper plate
  • Glue

Four supplies are all you need to start crafting your own laurel wreath. For smaller children, you may wish to precut the leaves out for them, while older children may be able to trace and cut their own.

Directions:

  1. Begin by tracing and cutting out a collection of leaves from the green paper. To make a leaf, cut a simple oval design. Don’t worry about them all matching in size and shape, as leaves tend to vary in nature.
  2. Cut the center of the paper plate out and discard it. Snip off about two inches of the rim. You will now see the half moon shape base for your crown.
  3. Begin applying glue to your leaves and press them to the paper plate base. Continue layering the leaves so that the entire plate base is covered. As you layer them, place them so they are going in the same direction.
