Snowball Express – Real Recipient Story

If you haven’t been following along with the GMC Hashtag Challenge to benefit two military charities you can read more about it and my involvement on my announcement post.

When I joined along side of GMC to help promote the Hashtag Challenge I was proud to be #TeamStars to help benefit Snowball Express.

Below is a letter shared from one of the Snowball Express attendees.  Her daughter is pictured below holding her ‘Daddy Doll’ which I thought was very touching.  Her doll has a photo of her dad, her hero, on it for her to keep close to her heart.

This year was our first Snowball Express and while we were there, we marked our 5th month anniversary of losing my husband. It isn’t easy to put into words what Snowball Express meant to my 8 year old daughter and me but I will try.  I guess the easiest way to explain it is to simply state that it was the first time since losing my husband that I went 5 days in a row without crying.  Sure, there were a few moments of filling up with tears.  However, those were tears of gratitude and pride as our group was shown so much love and respect from the citizens of DFW and the Snowball Staff and Volunteers.  Many people have asked me what my favorite part of the experience was.  My answer to them is also simple.  My favorite part was having so much fun with my daughter and seeing the joy in her face and witnessing her unbridled laugh for the first time in a long time.  It was 5 days of feeling a bit more normal in the most abnormal year of my life.

My hat goes off to everyone involved in planning and carrying out this event.  I can’t begin to fathom how difficult the logistics of pulling off an event like this is but I believe you guys did an amazing job.  Many thanks for a wonderful experience.  I hope to see you next year!

Respectfully,

Jennifer Hanson

Voting for SnowBall Express is very simple.  You just tweet, retweet or share on Instagram a photo of the GMC Sierra truck that is designed for this charity while tagging it #TeamStars.  If you aren’t in the area to capture a photo you can share someone’s online by retweeting their picture.  The GMC DFW team will be at local events holding signs for you to use and offering ways to win some great prizes.  Like GMC DFW on Facebook to find out current news.

Full Disclosure: I was compensated for my time sharing this challenge with you.  I encourage you to join to benefit the charity that I believe in.  All opinions are 100% mine.

  1. Ooh this is such a tearjerker. I think it’s really important that these families have all the support and resources they need. Being able to connect with other families in the same situation would be helpful in that there would be someone who could relate to what it was like, and it’s wonderful to have all these activities for the children. Thanks for sharing and spreading the word about this!

    1. I felt the same way when I read the story, Beeb. I can’t even begin to relate to these families and seeing an organization that helps support them in any way is such a blessing.
