3 DIY Wine Racks for Woodworkers to Try
Even people who don’t drink that much tend to find themselves with quite a few wine bottles in their house.
It’s something that just builds up. We get them as Christmas presents, at dinner parties, and sometimes we just buy them in preparation for something and end up not opening the bottle.
The great thing about wine is that you can keep it for years and years. It’s not something that you have to feel pressured to open.
But if you’re going to to do that, then you need a place to store it. Not all of us can have a wine cellar, but a nice wine rack is a good addition to any home.
And if you’re interested in woodworking, why not make one yourself? It’s a simple enough project, it won’t take too long and it wine racks always look better when they’re homemade.
So here are three methods for making a wine rack that you could try out yourself:
Here’s a great method from Lowe’s which is a six-bottle rack that will hang on the wall of your kitchen or dining room.
If you want to show your appreciation for wine there’s no better way to do it than to put the bottles on full-display on your wall.
Not terribly complicated either. In terms of tools, you’ll need a miter saw, a hacksaw a drill and an orbit sander which are all things that woodworkers tend to invest in early.
Like all of these racks we’re going to talk about, you don’t need that much material either. Mainly just some mahogany boards, wood glue, and some nails and screws.
You’ll start by cutting the six shelves out of some mahogany boards and then a larger one to serve as the backboard.
Measure the distance between where each of the shelves will be screwed into the board and then drill in the pilot holes.
Start with the bottom shelf, which will be longer than the others, screw it into the holes and then glue it in place. Repeat with the rest of the shelves.
You’ll also have to fix it to the wall using picture hanging system as well as an anchor that you can stud.

This one from The Kurtz Corner is another great one to hang on your wall but it’s also possible to hang wine glasses from it if you go for this method.
You’ll have to use a wooden pallet for this and they’re always being thrown away so you shouldn’t have a hard time finding one.
In addition, you’ll need almost fifty screws as well as some wood stains and a handful of different saws.
A jigsaw, a miter saw, a reciprocating saw, and while you’re gathering all of those, you might as well get yourself a good chainsaw too!

We’ll finish this off with an extremely easy project from Rogue Engineer. This will take you just a couple of minutes and you need very little material.
All you’ll need is a couple of 2X4 pieces of wood, a miter saw, some wood glue and several wood screws.
You’ll also need to get a 1×6 board to serve as the base and something that you can use to hang it. Something like a metal picture hanging system that you can drill into the wall and then attach the board to will suffice.
This will only hold four bottles instead of six like the others, but it’s so easy to make and it looks eye-catching too so it’s still worth making.

Conclusion
If you’ve got nowhere to store all of those wine bottles cluttering up your kitchen cupboards then no worries, you can build something to solve that problem.
And as you can see, most of the time the solution is pretty straightforward. These are all pretty simple and each one will look great in your kitchen.
