Staying Connected After Corporate
I can remember the day I first joined Yahoo! Groups. I had just decided to start networking with other work at home moms to learn about opportunities and increase sales. Gabby’s disabilities had become more severe with her having numerous surgeries that lead me away from the corporate world. I started my own online website and was still somewhat clueless on how to go about direct sales. It was not my forte.
As I was browsing through Yahoo! Groups I was able to find other networks to join that were not only work related. I actually even met my bestfriend to this day through one. I was able to meet some locals and even other moms of special needs children.
After meeting Brandy through one of the Yahoo! Groups I was a member of, we worked together on various projects. We then stayed connected through all social media outlets, both started blogging and finally had the opportunity to meet in person in 2009. After years of staying connected, talking regularly and emailing we will see each other again this June at a social media conference.
Have you seen the new Yahoo! Mail video ad? It cracks me up. I didn’t quit my job in the corporate world through email but Yahoo! Mail is the way I stayed in touch with all my previous co-workers. Some nights I would hop on Yahoo! Instant Messenger and chat with the ladies I worked with. They were able to keep updated on Gabby and our lives even though we didn’t see one another daily anymore. Having the ability to stay social after becoming a work at home mom is priceless. It literally keeps me sane.
Do you remember the first time you sent or received an email? Were you ever a part of any Yahoo! Groups?
Ok I am dreading that darn pic!! lol I don’t like it.. you look cute though. Yes I loved meeting you, it was wonderful. Friendships can be formed virtually and be just as meaningful as if you connected next door!
I don’t remember the first time I sent an email but I do know my first email account was Yahoo!
Very cute pic of you two!! I don’t remember when the first time I sent an email either, it was wayyyyyyyy back when 🙂
