I love to craft and be creative. Thankfully, so does Gabby. It started when she was young, we used to color together all the time. During a long hospital stay when she would have visitors, each person that came had to color a picture with her so she could hang it on the wall of her room. Now that she is 14 we have different crafts that we create together, such as this DIY Teen Locker Decor – framed quote.

DIY Teen Locker Decor

I love to repurpose old picture frames or inexpensive frames that I find when shopping. You can make a frame match any decor in your home, or in this case – high school locker, in a few simple steps. All you need is some spray paint.

Making over a picture frame is easy. Gabby loves gold sparkly decor so we started with a gold spray paint. This frame was originally an old brown with gold trim antique style, ugly… She first gave it a full coat of gold paint.

Without even waiting for it to dry, Gabby added a quick light coat of spray glitter. This brought out the sparkle!

The shimmer gives the frame a completely new look.

She was so proud of what she could accomplish on her own, despite her Cerebral Palsy.

Now we let the frame sit outside to dry for a few hours. Once it was no longer sticky from the paint, it was time to turn the frame into magnetic locker decor.

We purchased a small package of three magnets to hot glue on the back. The number and size of magnets you use is dependent on the weight of your frame. We used an 8×10 frame so Gabby glued all three magnets on. If your frame is 4×6 or 5×7, you could easily use only two.

Press the magnet in place at the top and bottom of your frame. The hot glue will dry quickly, so act fast. The first time we glued the magnet on Gabby had only placed glue in the center and it didn’t hold. We realized our frame had a groove in it, so we needed the glue to be on the edges to hold into place.

An easier way may be to add the glue directly to your frame and press the magnet on.

You can download the free printable quote above to use, or add a photo to your frame instead. We selected this quote because it speaks to Gabby. In her short 14 years of life she has gone through quite a bit. From multiple brain surgeries, to reconstruction of her tendons from Cerebral Palsy to countless hospital stays for Epilepsy, her life has been challenging.

This artwork means more than just daily inspiration for her. It speaks to her past and gives hope for her future. It reminds her to stay strong and shows her that she can overcome her disabilities and create beautiful things.

With all the medical issues Gabby has had in her lifetime, we are so thankful that during puberty we are able to ease into it. After dealing with precocious puberty, I feared this milestone more than she did. Her older sister dealt with a lot of menstrual pain during her teen years and usually it runs in the family. Thankfully there is now a new product on the shelf at Walmart, Advil® Menstrual Pain. Wish I had that for T years back!

Now the fun saying is “What monthly pain?“. Advil® Menstrual Pain provides us with one less thing to worry about when it comes to Gabby. In this new season of life, I am thankful that she has something that can help alleviate any aches and pains she may suffer.

Advil® Menstrual Pain is caffeine-free, antihistamine-free, and easy-to-swallow. Many other menstrual pain relievers contain caffeine, which can keep your daughter up at night, or antihistamines, which can cause daytime drowsiness. Remember to always take as directed on the packaging to help with menstrual cramps, back pain or headache. Gabby already uses Advil® to help with her migraines, so now we have another tool in our cabinet.

By eliminating the soreness during that time of the month, we are able to get back to what we really enjoy – crafting. Our next craft on the schedule is homemade cards. We have been sending them to her older sister who is away in the military.
