Lets Power Their Dreams to The Olympic Games

This post is brought to you by P&G and SheSpeaks

I grew up watching The Olympic Games.  I was always mesmerized by the gymnastics competition.  I also counted down the days to watch figuring skating during the Olympic Winter Games.  The Olympic Games is a powerful event and exciting to watch together as a family.  Growing up watching with my parents turned into a tradition I now share with my own children.  The only difference is, their favorite events to watch are slightly different than what I was used to.

Boys Playing Soccer

My son has played soccer now for a few years and he dreams of playing the way the athletes do in the Olympics.  The teams are so much more aggressive than what he feels brave enough to do.  This last season he finally started practicing headers.  He stopped playing t-ball due to being afraid of the ball and not willing to catch it.  Funny, he is now playing a contact sport.

He feels more comfortable playing a sport where the ball is on the ground.  However, when watching the Olympic Games and seeing how those men play soccer… it’s a whole different level.  It’s exciting.

I love supporting my son in his sport.  Watching him progress with each season.  Actually, I can tell a difference in his abilities with each new game.  Encouraging him in his passions is rewarding not only for him, but myself.

Power Their Dreams

There are many ways you can power your child’s dreams.

  • Be present.
  • Show interest in their passion.
  • Encourage them when they fail.
  • Reward their success.
  • Teach dedication and hard work.

When watching The Olympic Games together as a family, we make it a fun event to cheer on the athletes.  We also take it as an opportunity to discuss the hard work that goes into training for their events.  My son has always had the personality to be shy and a little intimidated.  He is slowly learning how to build his confidence.  By watching the Olympic Games together, I can show him that the athletes train for years to get to that level and are not just ‘born with it‘.  It’s encouraging for kids.

Are you watching the Olympic Games with your family?  I put together this Pinterest board of ideas for hosting a viewing party or fun activities to do at home with your kids.  The Olympics is a big event for the whole world.
