Texas Christkindl Market – A German Christmas Tradition

My family is getting excited about visiting the Texas Christkindl Market tomorrow in Arlington, Texas.  My husband has a German heritage so this market will be fun to explore.  We even have a couple of German ornaments hanging on our Christmas tree.

Texas Christkindl Market, the largest open-air market in the Southwest, is not your typical holiday festival. It’s inspired by German tradition and features holiday gifts, decorations, and German food.  With more than 50 vendors you are sure to find something your family will love.  From gifts to give this holiday season to adorable decorations to hang in your home.  Jewelry, Christmas ornaments and German keepsakes are only a few of the items you will find among the vendors.

Plus, it is the only place in the Southwest where you can find handcrafted gifts and collectibles straight from exclusive Käthe Wohlfahrt merchandise and designs from the iconic Rothenburg ob der Tauber Christmas Village.

Beyond shopping, Texas Christkindl added a Kinder Market is that is perfect for families. Storytelling, pony rides, the North Pole, Texas Marionette show by Geppetto’s Theatre and a Snow Playground are some of the activities you will find in the Kinder Market.  In Texas it is not often we get snow so I know my kids will head straight to the snow playground.

Although my children are getting older, I am looking forward to capturing their photo with St. Nick.  Christmas is not complete without the traditional family photo with Santa.  I think I’ll drag them to take photos wit St. Nick even when they are adults!  Photos with St. Nick at the Texas Christkindl Market will have an additional charge, check the event calendar for full details.

The Gingerbread Haus Decorating Workshop presented by The Cakery sounds like a blast.  Kellie Rasberry from 106.1 Kiss FM is bringing her daughter, Emma Kelly, to the Texas Christkindl Market on Saturday, December 5th to build a gingerbread house with fans. The whole family can sit down to make their own house and then put it in a storage case for easy travel back home.

After all of the carousel rides and snow fights, you’ll probably work up quite an appetite for some authentic German cuisine – roasting nuts, brats, potato pancakes, and funnel cakes. Think it’ll be too cold outside for your enjoyment?  Think again!  The Warming Hut presented by the Arlington Highlands is provided for guests to thaw out and get comfortable.  You can bring your food or desserts inside to munch on while warming up.  Or listen to one of the musical acts that are scheduled throughout the market.
