Things to do in Gatlinburg, Tennessee

I have family that lives in Tennessee so we try to visit once a year if possible.  Unfortunately, last year we were unable to so we are extra excited about our upcoming trip in July.  We are taking an eight night road-trip from Texas to Myrtle Beach in South Carolina and then venturing over to stay in a cabin for four nights in Gatlinburg.  I love Gatlinburg.  It is a little town set atop the Smokey Mountains.  It’s beautiful.

We plan to take a picnic up in the mountains one day and go hiking.  Of course we will visit the natural springs that run through the mountains and take many photos.  The kids are even excited to visit the border of North Carolina so they can say they stood in two states at once.

Next comes the play time.  Ripley’s has eight attractions right in Gatlinburg.

Experience eight unique attractions including Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Odditorium, our 85,000 sq ft Aquarium of the Smokies, a 5D Moving Theater, our bone-chilling Haunted Adventure, the mind-bending Marvelous Mirror Maze, and our two fully themed mini-golf courses!

We have been to the Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies before and loved it.  If you have never been to a Ripley’s aquarium I highly recommend it.  It is huge!  My son loves sea life so he is excited about this stop.  We also enjoy going through mirror mazes together.  We have never done the one in Gatlinburg but we have visited the Ripley’s mirror maze in Texas before.  So I am looking forward to seeing the differences.

Playing mini-golf on the side of a mountain?  Yes, please!  This is one thing I have never done in my entire life.  I even spent my summers in Tennessee as a kid and have always planned to try this.  The kids asked to play during our trip in the summer of 2013 but we ran out of time.  This July the challenge is on!

    1. We have visited the aquarium a few times and do enjoy it. My mom is from there and my family still lives there. So we visit often. Looking forward to it!
