A kid, her dog and a wheel barrel – what else do you need?
I love watching our old home movies. It’s funny to see all the crazy styles of fashion that you wouldn’t be caught wearing today. I also love comparing myself as a child to my children when they were little. It’s interesting to see various expressions and actions that you don’t even realize your child does the same.
I loved being outside with my parents when I was a kid. I remember vividly playing on my swing set and riding my bike. I also thought my dog was the cutest and softest thing ever. I didn’t grow up being attached to any pet and to be honest I was one of those kids who got over the cuteness of a puppy when it grew up and wasn’t as cuddly anymore. For many years our family pets were fish. Neither of my parents were much of dog lovers and my dad was allergic to cats. I think that is why I enjoy looking back on this fond memory of me playing outside with my puppy. I love seeing how happy I was with that dog because I barely remember it now. It also makes me laugh at how I just could not understand why the dog would rather lay in the grass or chase the wheel barrel instead of ride along with me.
Of course I’m only able to enjoy this home movie clip after I get over the desire to smack myself upside the head for whining. Oh my, I can’t believe I whined like that and was left standing. I don’t remember the day I stopped whining and I don’t even remember why parents ever telling me not to whine. I do, however, know I put a stop to my kids whining within a few seconds of it ever starting. Kind of ironic watching myself do something I can’t stand. Makes me a little nervous to watch anymore home movies. You just truly never know what you will realize about your younger self until you see your parents videos of you.
What is your favorite childhood memory you can relive through video? Did you have a favorite pet when you were a kid?
Full Disclosure: Last year I was an ambassador for YesVideo where I was able to have my family home movies transferred to DVD. I love being able to share their new features like the embedding of my video clips onto my blog. Compensation was received for my time although all opinions are 100% mine.
