Cara Box Exchange – all the way from South Carolina
I was excited to read about the Cara Box exchange hosted by Wifessionals where bloggers are matched up randomly and send care packages to one another. Each month has a new theme and for my first month, the month of May, the theme was regional.
The blogger that received my name in the draw writes at The Spot Where Lemon Rain Drops and lives in South Carolina. Kat took the time to read through my blog and get to know me and my family. She topped my Cara Box with a very sweet and heartfelt letter that was handwritten. When was the last time you received a handwritten letter? The letter was filled with encouraging words and told me a little about herself and where she lives.
Kat filled the box full of southern goodies. She shared her favorite recipes, even some family secrets, and all the fixings to make them. When I opened the box the aroma filled the house. The kids started asking immediately what smelled so delicious.
The recipe cards were no ordinary cards. She took the time out to draw on each card and hand-write the recipes. They are amazing. They are a nice large size with clear writing so I can easily follow along. I plan to keep these recipe cards until they are worn out! Even though I also live in the south, this Cara Box from South Carolina is completely different than anything I sent from Texas. Each of the recipes are new and I can’t wait to test them out.
The person I was matched with lives in Hawaii! After I finished drooling over the fact she lives in the one state I yearn to visit over any other, I started reading through her blog, Our Lives are an Open Blog. I was impressed with Alex’s life story immediately. She married her high school best-friend, moved away to be near his family in Hawaii and is about to make another large move across countries to be with him on a new job opportunity in Korea. If that’s not true love, what is? Plus, she’s a teacher. I admire teachers and their hard work.
Alex is originally from Georgia so sending her a regional box from the south was kind of like sending her a box from home. Instead of making the box generic to the south I decided to stick with more of a Texan box filled with items she also could use during her travels. You can see photos of the items I sent her on her Cara Box reveal post.
- USA Flag – figured she could keep this on her new desk in Korea to remind her of home.
- Travel Theme Photo Album – to document their travels together around the world, literally.
- EOS Chapstick – not necessarily southern but all the teens in TX seem to love it and Alex loves chapstick, soooo.
- Texas Playing Cards – to be occupied on the long flights and to play games with her hubby until making new friends in Korea.
- Travel Heat Styling Bag – to keep her hair curler/straightener in it during travel – in TX we like big hair always styled.
- Stationary and Texas Pen – to keep in touch with relatives and friends after the move.
I had a great time sending out my Cara Box and receiving my surprise in the mail. I can’t wait to see what June’s theme is!
