How to Make Homemade Apple Turnovers
When I was asked if I would be interested in tasting Grandma Hoerner’s apple pie filling I jumped on the chance. I had heard delicious things about the rich thickness of the natural apple filling. At first I tossed around the idea to make mini pies with the kids but instead decided to test out making homemade apple turnovers using crescent rolls.
I made an easy to follow tutorial for making homemade apple turnovers that you can watch below.
These were seriously simple to make and absolutely delicious. Even the kids could do it. Instead of going about it the long way and using hand-rolled dough I purchased the Pillsbury Crescent Rolls. The apple turnovers were the perfect size for one serving. They are best served warm for dessert or even for an afternoon treat.
The video gives step by step instructions on the best way to fold the crescent roll to hold the apple pie filling within the turnover for baking and serving. Follow the instructions on your crescent roll package for how long to bake the turnovers. Since the apple pie filling just needs to be heated up you are really only baking the dough until it’s golden and ready to eat.
I cannot wait to make more yummy desserts using Grandma Hoerner’s natural apple pie filling and am very excited to test out their additional flavors. My next plan is to make homemade tarts and mini pies!

Full Disclosure: I was provided with a complementary jar of Grandma Hoerner’s Apple Pie Filling for review. I purchased the additional supplies for baking the dessert of my choice and shared my recipe because I thought it was delicious. All opinions are 100% mine.
What is your favorite dessert to bake? Which apple dessert should I try next?
I would have never thought to use crescent rolls to make these. Cool idea. I’ll have to look for this apple filling when we finish the move.
Using crescent rolls made it so easy to bake and really fast. My kind of baking!

Becca, I enjoy apple too and I highly recommend Grandma Hoerner’s Apple Pie filling, it was delicious!
I’d eat like three of those right now, yummy!!!!
The good thing about them, Hanan, is that they are small enough that you can get away with eating more than one.
I think you should make those again and again and again!
These looks delicious! I love turnovers and can’t wait to try this recipe sometime.
Next time I’m going to add some glazed sprinkled on top I think… I also love turnovers.
Um, this is exactly what I need. I’m a terrible baker and as such my family only gets to enjoy such treats when we visit my MIL. I’ll have to look for these in the stores.
I’m right there with you, Amy. These were not only simple enough for the kids to help, they were fast to make.
