In Texas, we love a good burger. Cooking out on the grill is how we prepare most dinners and the grill is always running during our weekends while entertaining family and friends. A burger is not complete without Wright® Brand Bacon Cowboy Rub (Limited Edition)! I’m sharing some of my tricks for making the best hamburger patty below.
Texas Cowboy Burger Ingredients
We love to season our hamburgers with fresh ingredients. We love green bell peppers and red onions so much we are growing them in our home garden. A true cowboy burger in Texas features bell pepper, onion, meat stuffed with cheese and topped with the best bacon. Wright® Brand Bacon Cowboy Rub (Limited Edition) was exactly what this burger needed.
We picked up a package of this limited edition bacon at our local HEB. I love shopping at HEB for their wide variety of items. I can find every item I need for any dinner in one place. I also love how easy they make shopping for food sensitivities at their store. Everything is clearly marked.

I like to use Ground Sirloin Ground Beef for our hamburger patties. Then mix in some chopped green bell pepper, red onion, and your seasoning of choice. I used a steak seasoning mix that I was able to pick up while grocery shopping to save some time.
I love cheese. Instead of just topping our hamburgers with a slice of cheese, I like to mix shredded cheese into my meat. The cheese serves as a binding when melted to help hold your patties together so they do not fall apart on the grill.
Hand-press your hamburger patties into the size you want. I used 1.25 lbs of meat and made four burgers.
Now for the best part – the bacon! The Wright® Brand Bacon Cowboy Rub has a unique flavor with a blend of smoke and spices. The savory-sweet balance has a little kick to it. The thickness makes it perfect for topping your burgers. Everyone loved it.
To make bacon weaves that sit perfectly balanced on top of your cowboy burgers, you will need to cut the long strips of bacon in half.
I weaved four half pieces of bacon together while placing on the flat-top grill. It was easier to place the bacon down directly on the grill than try to move it while holding together.
I love my bacon extra crispy so while the bacon was grilling, I placed the burgers on the grill.

Everything was ready to take off the grill at the same time. I couldn’t stop myself from sneaking a few extra pieces of bacon while preparing my cowboy burger.
Find your local HEB to pick up a package of Wright® Brand Bacon Cowboy Rub – Limited Edition in stores now. This thick-cut bacon is real wood smoked and delicious.
