Minecraft Summer Camp for Kids

Minecraft Camp for Kids

My kids enjoy playing Minecraft on our Xbox 360.  Even my husband enjoys building castles and coming up with tree house creations with them.  My son watches Minecraft videos on YouTube and is always learning new tricks.  He has requested we purchase Minecraft for our Mac so he can test out the strategies he learned in some of the videos, so when we heard about this summer camp we knew it would be perfect for him.

Summer 2015 Minecraft Camp for Kids

Summer of Minecraft with Connected Camps is four weeks long and features weekly challenges for the kids to learn and accomplish.  The best part is they can work on their creations on their own time and when it is convenient for the family.  No need to sit at the computer every day from eight to noon.  As the parent, you can make the decision on when they spend time at camp.

Your child will be playing on the moderated camp servers for the complete camp experience. Kids will learn with expert counselors in a safe, moderated, multiplayer environment. The camp is recommended for kids age 9-13.  Noah turns 9 at the end of June so this is perfect for him.  He has always be interested in building, computer programming, robotics and Minecraft.

Kids will learn:

  • Problem solving and design
  • Advanced building techniques
  • Online and web literacy
  • Collaboration and community organizing
  • Digital citizenship

We are taking our summer vacation in the middle of the second week but luckily Noah can work on camp in his down time in the hotel using my laptop.  Plus the weekly challenges can be completed at any time so he can work on them in advance or when we return from vacation.  No worries on missing anything!

As an add-on, kids can take a one-week special programming class that will teach them how to actually code in Minecraft using the Lua programming language, running on special servers. Kids can walk away learning how to program computers and robots to perform in-game tasks for them, and learn programming concepts that can be applied to many other programming languages.

And even better, parents can participate as well! Parents can sign up in a parallel camp with its own servers, and attend seminars that will follow what the kids are doing, so everyone can learn.
