Homemade Pumpkin Spice Funnel Cake

During the Fall season everyone raves about pumpkin spice flavored… everything.  We decided to test out the pumpkin spice love in our kitchen on this homemade funnel cake recipe.  We missed our State Fair this year and the one item we always purchase at the fair is a funnel cake.  The kids and I decided to get creative in the kitchen and make our own funnel cake.

Pumpkin Spice Funnel Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup All Purpose Flour
  • 1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 Tablespoon of Sugar
  • 1 Teaspoon of Vanilla
  • 1 Egg
  • 3/4 Cup of Milk
  • Vegetable Oil – for cooking
  • Pumpkin Spice – for topping
  • Powdered Sugar – for topping

Funnel Cake Ingredients

We mixed flour, baking powder, salt, ground cinnamon,  and sugar first.  Once all the dry ingredients were mixed well we added the vanilla extract, milk and egg.  Then beat until the batter was smooth.

*We also made a gluten-free version of this funnel cake by adding an egg and using Pamela’s Mix instead of flour and baking powder.  It tasted just as delicious as the original version.

After making your funnel cake batter, heat one inch of oil in a skillet to 360 degrees over medium/high heat.  You can use a funnel to pour the batter into your oil if you have one.  We did not have a funnel so instead we spooned our batter into a Ziploc bag and cut the end off.  Another great idea is an icing bag and pipe the batter into your skillet.

To turn an ordinary funnel cake into a pumpkin spice dream, we used our homemade pumpkin spice mix and sprinkled on top.  We also added some powdered sugar, of course!

  1. This looks amazing! I’ve made something similar, but just added a bit of can pumpkin and cinnamon. I’m going to have to try this A.S.A.P! I make funnel cakes at home every few months when I’m getting that deep fried craving. lol. I have to admit, I’m pretty plain jane though I just prefer the powdered sugar on top!!
