Dollar Store DIY: Halloween Vase
With a new season comes new home decor. Fall is my favorite season for many reasons, one being that I love the colors of changing leaves. I also love decorating my home for Fall and Halloween. To save money when decorating the house each season I try to make some of my own crafts to display. Below is a dollar store vase that I turned into Halloween decorations.
Supplies
- $1 Glass Vase
- Halloween/Fall themed stickers – 1 sheet for $1
- Spray Paint
- Tea-light Candle – package for $1
Dollar Tree offers a variety of glass vases for only a dollar. While I was at my local Dollar Tree I picked up this vase and the stickers I used to make my Halloween design. The sticker sheet had several Halloween designs on it for a dollar. There were more than enough stickers to make up multiple vases, plus some left over for the kids to use. I used some left over spray paint I had in my garage, however any spray paint that works on glass will do. Color choice is optional. You can find a package of tea-light candles at your local dollar store. Don’t forget the candle lighter, too!
Instructions
Plan out your design before adding stickers to your vase. You do not want to remove the stickers and move them once you start. The excess glue may cause a problem when painting or the stickers may not stick firmly the second time around.
Place the stickers on the front of your vase. Wherever you place the stickers the light from your candle will shine through that area only – so if your vase is larger I recommend using more stickers to allow enough light to come through. Since your candle will be sitting in the bottom of your vase, make sure your stickers are at least two inches above the bottom or you will see the candle inside.
Press the stickers down firmly to make sure your spray paint does not seep through. I used the thick foam stickers from the dollar store instead of the thin paper ones. This way I knew I could easily remove them after painting.
Place your vase upside down when painting. It is imperative that you do not get paint on the inside of the vase. If paint gets on the inside and behind where you placed your stickers, it will block the light from shining through.
I had to cover the vase in two coats of spray paint to make it even. I sprayed the first coat lightly to avoid any paint runs or drips down the vase. After letting the first coat dry, I added a second coat.
Once the vase is fully dry peel the stickers off slowly so you do not lift any paint.
Now your Halloween vase is ready to add a candle and display!

This is so cool! I will definitely be making something like this with my daughter. She will love it!
I love making DIY projects with products from the dollar store. Your vase is super cute.
How cute! The kids could even help by adding the stickers!
